Best Ways to Clean Gutters

Most people hate cleaning gutters, and for good reason. It’s one of the most difficult chores to do.

However, maintaining clean gutters is important in keeping your home safe from clogging which can be dangerous, especially in rainy and winter seasons.

Find out how you can safely clean your gutters below:

Use a ladder

A classic way to clean a gutter is by using a ladder and hose. Of course, to do this you have to choose the best ladder to ensure your safety.

You want to get a ladder which won’t tip and will be able to hold your weight steadily so you’re not at the risk of falling. For this reason, we suggest avoiding step ladders as they may tip.

Instead, try extension ladders which can be fitted with stabilizer arms. This is a good investment for your home because they will allow you to climb up safely.

Use a leaf blower

If you don’t want the inconvenience of cleaning your gutter by hand, a leaf blower can help you. This method isn’t only useful for your lawn but also for cleaning out your gutters in dry seasons.

To be on the safe side, we recommend using an extension kit which can extend and curve your leaf blower’s reach. This will allow you to use your leaf blower even without a ladder.

Also, make sure you’re using goggles when doing this because the debris being blown out may just fall on you.

Try a power washer

If you have debris and dirt built up in your gutters, a leaf blower may not be enough to fully clean it out.

In this case, a power washer will help you blast them away with a fine-spray nozzle. This method is great for clogged gutters and downspouts.

You only need to point the nozzle down the hole and let your power washer do the work.

Use a vacuum

Using any of the methods above can leave a mess on the ground after. If you want to avoid cleaning up after cleaning your gutters, try using a vacuuming gunk with a wet/dry vac.

This will clean your gutter without leaving you with a mess on the ground to rinse or pick up.

Hire professionals to do it

If you’re pressed for time or don’t have any power tools to help you clean your gutters, you can also hire professional gutter cleaning services to do the work for you.

Not only will this save you a lot of time, you’re also guaranteed a job well done compared to if you do it yourself.
