The Art of Cake is owned by pastry chefs Gloria Bednarz and Guenter Hess, who have been serving the Edmonton area for over three decades. This family-owned and operated bakery is best known for their signature creations and custom cakes.
If you’re ordering a signature or custom cake, you should do so at least a month in advance even though they only require a week’s notice. The Art of Cake puts a cap on the orders that they accept so that they can maintain their high standards.
With that said, each signature cake is embedded with your chosen flavor and finished off with a buttercream finish, chocolate shavings, and a 3-word personalized inscription on a white chocolate plaque. It may include a meticulously hand-sculpted flower as well and comes in four different sizes.
The flavors for signature cakes include Vanilla with a choice of buttercream flavors that include coconut, lemon, and raspberry. You can also opt for a Chocolate variant with either vanilla or chocolate buttercream.
Their pre-made single-layer cakes consist of uncomplicated staples such as carrot cake with cream cheese and banana cake. These are usually known to be very subtle, light, and not overly sweet as compared to other variations you may find out there.
The Art of Cake also accepts custom cake orders, but they’ll charge an additional fee for the design & execution. The same applies to any artistic details that are added to wedding cakes.
Wedding cakes are their main draw, with each creation beginning with a consultation. All wedding cakes are priced per order and a $100.00 non-refundable down payment is required
Aside from cakes, they serve a variety of pastries and other sweet confections as well. Other items you can order include muffins, cookie packs, cake pops, and a wide range of cupcake flavors.
Customer Reviews
The Art of Cake is renowned for their custom and signature cakes. One of their customers, Randohlf Manzano, ordered one for his daughter’s birthday as he shares:
“They make great looking and good tasting cakes. The purple cake in the picture was made for my daughter’s 18th birthday for her debutante party. Our baker did an excellent work. They work with us very hard with what my daughter would like the cake to look and it turned out amazing. I would totally recommend this place. Also great to go and hang out and chill and eat cake.”
Kat Besa, another customer, adds:
“I’ve always admired the artfully designed cakes from The Art of Cake from afar amd finally had a chance to order one. Well, it did not disappoint! Not only was it beautiful, every tiny detail precious and impeccably created, it was delicious! Perfectly sweetened, moist and lemony, just the way we like it. Thank you for making Edmonton all that much sweeter.”

Although tucked away in a back alley deep in Old Strathcona, Sugared & Spiced Baked Goods gives new meaning to the term hidden gem. Led by Amy and Jeff Nachtigall, their small crew began firing up their ovens in 2012.
With roots in making unique cookie flavors, they have expanded their offerings today after receiving professional training and certifications from NAIT’s baking programs. They now offer tarts, brownies, meringue, cheesecakes, coffee, and cakes.
For those that don’t fancy walking down a back alley to visit them in person, Sugared and Spiced offer deliveries via Swift Time. However, they can only guarantee deliveries within a two-hour window of your requested time as long as you’re within Edmonton, St. Albert, & Sherwood Park.
Nevertheless, their Signature cakes are all made from scratch and are works of art that are topped with chocolate or white chocolate drip, baked meringues, macarons, and sprinkles. Their Epic Signature cakes come with an extra generous serving of macarons and meringue too.
Each Signature Cake needs at least 7 days to make and special custom cakes would need a minimum of 10 days or more. While it may seem like a long time, this is because each ingredient and cake is made to order to ensure that you have the freshest product possible.
Another thing we like about Sugared and Spiced is that they can create custom flavors upon request. However, this is charged at an hourly rate by the professional team of bakers and is considered as recipe development.
But you’ll be more than happy choosing from one of their delectable in-house flavors. You can even add a macaron with a personalized message if it’s for a special occasion!
Sugared and Spiced also has pre-made To Go cakes, but the available flavors change daily depending on what pre-orders they’ve made. So you’ll need to keep tabs on their social media to find out the flavors of the day and call their shop immediately to order before it runs out.
If you’d like to get priority on special days, you can join their Cake Club Membership for an annual fee of $129.00. You get three special dates each year with a guaranteed cake, and they’ll even give you a heads up a week before to remind you!
They also offer an Office Monthly Cake Club, wherein you get a cake each month delivered right to your place of business for your employees. The annual membership is $979 and you can choose your delivery dates in advance so that you won’t forget your staff’s birthdays.
Customer Reviews
Sugared and Spiced has a loyal following even though their location is hidden from the main road. One of these customers is Erin Foster-O’Riordan, who shares:
“Sugared and Spiced has been our go-to for baked goods since before they had a storefront to go to. Their cakes are as delicious as they are beautiful, their tarts are the best I’ve ever had, the brownies are the stuff of legend in the city, their ginger cookies are sugar-covered comfort, their merengues satisfy all sweets cravings simultaneously by being both crisp and gooey. And to top it off, the owners are amazing members of the community.”
3. Flirt Cupcakes

Flirt Cupcakes was founded by Michelle LeMoignan and Brianna Vallet (a certified pastry chef) on Valentine’s Day in 2009. They are both Edmonton natives and proudly serve the local community their original recipes baked from scratch daily.
Their cakes are divided into four main categories: Flavor Cakes, Specialty Cakes, Animal Cakes, and Cake Toppers. These range in size from 4-inches to 10-inches, with a special option for a 10-inch Tall Cake.
What we like the best about Flirt Cupcakes is that almost every cake can be made either vegan-friendly, gluten-free, or a combination of both! However, do take note that they use the same tools for their regular products, and while they strive to prevent cross-contamination, those with allergies eat at their own risk.
Nevertheless, Flavor Cakes are their signature and traditional recipes, offering variations such as coffee, coconut, raspberry, and brown sugar cinnamon, just to name a few. They even have a peanut butter cake that’s certified as peanut-free!
They likewise offer Specialty Cakes and Animal Cakes which feature more intricate presentations. Although the selection of flavors are the same as Flavor Cakes, these are topped with delectable buttercream icing.
For delivery options, you can find Flirt Cupcakes on Door Dash, Uber Eats, and Skip the Dishes. They offer their classic assorted cupcakes in both the regular recipe and the vegan alternative too.
Unfortunately, they only offer a 6-inch birthday cake for delivery with their third-party partners. This vanilla confetti cake is covered with sprinkles and you can add a birthday message with a maximum of 24 letters.
If you ordered a custom cake or cupcakes for a wedding or special event though, Flirt Cupcakes will deliver and set it up personally. Both delivery and setup have an extra $50 fee each, and if deliveries outside of Edmonton have additional charges.
Customer Reviews
Flirt Cupcakes is known for their signature cakes, especially their vegan and gluten free options.
Pam Kirby shares how thankful she is that this bakeshop caters to her dietary restrictions:
“Trying to find a bakery that offers vegan gluten free options is like a needle in a hay stack. It’s usually you can have gluten free but not vegan and vice versa…Placed the order with ease and blown away by the quality. Sure your paying a premium but for quality and experience. I’d say treat yourself or someone you care about to a Flirt Cupcake experience! You won’t regret it.”
Allison Gates, another customer, also shares:
“Delicious moist vegan cakes! Would highly recommend. Your non-vegan friends won’t know it’s vegan. Thank you!”
4. Chocorrant Pâtisserie + Café

Tuesday to Sunday: 9:00am - 4:00pm |
Chocorrant Pâtisserie + Café first was established in 2017 by pastry chef Kai Wong and her brother David. They offer fresh and creative takes on croissants and cakes for the residents of Edmonton.
Some of the artisan flavored croissants they offer are strawberry milk, matcha green tea, cookies & cream, or apple brie just to name a few. This quaint spot has sweet treats and a light lunch menu as well, consisting of soups, quiches, and sandwiches.
With no more than 20 seats in this cozy cafe, we’re not surprised that most people opt to grab-and-go or order for delivery since it can get full. If you’re not in the mood for croissants or lunch, then can you try one of Chocorrant’s six types of cakes.
While the cake flavors might seem slim to some, it’s a good number that doesn’t take away from their main offering of croissants. We like that Chocorrant offers a Cake Sampler, which features small portions of each flavor.
Their most popular is the nut-free Lemon Meringue Cheesecake followed by the gluten and dairy-free Mango Passionfruit Parfait. Apart from the sampler, their square cakes are only offered in one size at 5 x 5 inches.
They can handle deliveries for personal orders or catering purposes, but large orders need a week’s advanced notice. There’s a $10 delivery charge to downtown Edmonton and $25 anywhere else in the city.
Customer Reviews
Chocorrant is known for its croissants and extraordinary cake flavors. One of their customers, Aileen Chen, was completely blown away by her experience. She writes:
“From the unique flavours to the intricate presentation, Chocorrant is a must-visit for any pastry lover in Edmonton. I was in the city this past weekend for a friend’s birthday, and I was pleasantly surprised by all the flavours of both croissants and cakes they offered. There’s something for everyone!
We had picked out an Earl Grey Opera, a Mango Coconut Parfait, a Lychee Raspberry cake, and an Espresso Cake; as well as the Lemon Meringue and Crème Brûlée croissants.
I’ve been to my fair share of bakeries, and Earl Grey cake is a flavour that not many bakeries offer, but a Lychee Raspberry cake was something I have only seen in Chocorrant so far. The same goes for the Crème Brûlée croissant. They even had an Ube flavoured cake!
I cannot recommend Chocorrant enough! It is definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re craving a slightly more unique taste as opposed to traditional patisseries. You won’t be disappointed!

Our list of the best cake delivery shops in Edmonton wouldn’t be complete without Duchess Bakeshop, which is now practically an institution in the city. It first opened in 2009 offering residents classic French pastries and Albertan desserts.
Whether it’s their famous macarons, éclairs, brownies, or butter tarts, all their products are made with all-natural ingredients from scratch. They also sell baking ingredients and cookbooks as well via their sister shop next door, Provisions by Duchess.
As mentioned earlier, they are primarily known for their macarons, which come in a variety of flavors like salted caramel, pistachio, lemon, tonka bean, and rose. To keep things fresh and exciting, they also have 3 rotating flavors of the month, which keeps people coming back regularly.
They only offer two cakes at the Duchess Bakeshop at the time of this writing, which are the Duke and Lemon Meringue cakes. The latter is the more popular one – an 8-inch chiffon cake with a layer of salted caramel and lemon cream wrapped up in toasted meringue.
With their array of mouth watering pastries, the Duchess Bakeshop is known for its long queues that can spill out onto the street. If you don’t want to wait in line, you can order some of their pastries and cakes to be delivered to your home.
Offering delivery Wednesday through Sunday between 9:30 am and 4:30 pm, you’ll receive a heads up when the driver is headed your way. Orders over $50 are delivered for free, while orders less than $50 are subject to a $5 delivery charge.
We like the affordable delivery fees and the fact that they stay the same no matter where you reside in Edmonton. However, only approved postal codes on their website are accepted, so make sure to double-check online before ordering.
Customer Reviews
Duchess Bakeshop already has a cult following, so don’t be surprised that they’re regularly packed. Ellen Fung decided to order for a delivery instead, and was equally impressed:
“We placed an order on line and had free delivery. Thank you for giving us this option Duchess Bake Shop! You go above and beyond to make this special!”
Nelson Tremblay, ordered a cake from Duchess Bakeshop, and he wasn’t disappointed either. He writes:
“Went to this bake shop and found it to be excellent in all aspects – the décor, the choice of bespoke baking ingredients and of course, the excellent customer service provided by the employees. The Duke cake I had purchased for my wife was greedily consumed and was the most chocolatey dessert we’ve had in quite some time. Sublime! Definitely recommended. I had heard they were considered the best pâtisserie in the city. I have absolutely no trouble believing it!”
