I quilt on weekends, which means I’ve collected way more fabric than I care to admit. Still, somehow, I never have the right piece when I need it most.
Worse, a fabric that looks perfect on the shelf can fall apart once you start cutting.
After a few of those mistakes, I decided to visit fabric shops around Edmonton to see which ones were actually worth it.
To save you the same trial and error, here are the shops that stood out during my search.
How much does fabric cost in Edmonton shops?
Fabric in Edmonton shops typically costs between $8 and $30 per yard, depending on the type and quality. Basic cotton fabrics usually fall on the lower end, while specialty fabrics like silk or designer prints can go higher.
1. Fabric + Flow Textile Co.

Address: 10875 184 St NW
Phone: (780) 238-0658
Business hours:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday to Saturday: Closed
- Wednesday: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Sunday: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Fabric + Flow Textile Co. in Edmonton quickly became one of my favorite stops for sewing materials.
Their fabric selection is impressive, with options suited for swimwear, activewear, and everyday apparel. I noticed a variety of materials too, from bamboo and linen to ponte and fleece.
I especially appreciated their swim kits. They come with curated fabric combinations and ready-to-sew patterns, making it much easier to kick off a project. They’re a real time-saver for a busy sewist like me.
I found browsing their selection easy, both in-store and online. The website is clear and lets you filter fabrics by type, content, and purpose.
I also heard from a friend who ordered online that they offer free shipping on orders over $150 in Canada and the US with no surprise tariffs. This makes larger projects easier to plan.
The only small drawback is that fabrics are sold in half-meter increments, so you can’t order more exact measurements like 1.2m. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it can take a bit of adjusting when planning a project.
Reliable online shopping experience
“I don’t live in the area but have ordered online and not only do they have amazing products, but the customer service is phenomenal. I had a huge shipping issue that myself and the F+F took several steps to try and resolve and unfortunately we were left without answers. F+F made it right and got me my order, maintaining communication to keep me informed. Keep up the amazing work and thank you for your service!”

High-quality fabrics
“I absolutely adore the quality of these fabrics. I have used the bamboo French terry and cotton lawn. I can say that the bamboo FT is so incredibly soft and has great recovery. The CL is crisp and lightweight and the shirred bodice I made gather beautifully! The colours are vibrant and stay crisp. I can’t wait for their next fabric release!”

Phone: (780) 860-1395
Business hours:
- Monday, Sunday: Closed

Trapunto is a great place for anyone who enjoys quilting or hand stitching.
They have plenty of quality fabrics, stitching supplies, and notions. It’s one of the shops where I find it easy to find what I need for my projects.
I was impressed by their selection from brands like Andover, Art Gallery, and Camelot. The variety is great, so finding fabrics that fit your project is easy and straightforward.
The prices are another reason to visit. A lot of fabrics and supplies are 25% to 50% off, so getting good materials doesn’t have to cost too much.
Trapunto also stands out for its sense of community. They offer classes, open studio times, and one-on-one help. I really loved these offerings since I’m a sucker for learning new skills and connecting with people who share the same hobby as me.
If there’s a drawback, it’s that the level of help can vary depending on who’s available since the shop is relatively small and family-run.
Good fabric selection with attentive staff
“Nice selection of fabrics. Seems to be quilt focused, which is why I went! Busy place but I didn’t have wait, as staff was very attentive. Seems to be very popular! Nice patterns and books too. No machines or feet for sale as they focus on the material and color matching.”
- Rick Nielsen, Google Review
Helpful and knowledgeable staff
“I was in the store on Monday and needed some advice and was a bit overwhelmed with a very old project that needed to return from vacation. Dorothy helped me out and made me fell confident on finishing the over dew project.
It’s so nice that we have this kind of quilt store in Edmonton with great knowledge and the friendly staff that will drop everything and help you.
Thank you Dorothy and staff.”

3. Former + Latter Fabrics

Address: Main Level, 7019 104 Street NW #101
Phone: Requests or inquiries can be sent via their contact page
Business hours:
- Monday, Sunday: Closed
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Thursday: 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM
If you’re into garment sewing, Former + Latter Fabrics is the place to visit.
They carry premium, reliable materials like Liberty of London, Merchant & Mills, and Lady McElroy. I appreciated being able to browse fabrics chosen specifically for certain garment types, which makes planning a project much easier.
One feature I really liked was their flexible fabric quantities. They sell fabrics in 0.1-meter increments, making it easy to buy just enough for a project or a sample.
They also offer sewing patterns, buttons, and labels. This makes it convenient to pick up all the extras you need for a project in one visit. Beyond materials, they offer hands-on workshops that help you build skills while working on real projects.
The Alteration + Repair Workshop offers hands-on garment fixes, while the Jean Making Weekend covers the full process of making durable, stylish jeans. I like that the workshops focus on practical skills you can use again, not just one-off techniques.
The only drawback is that the premium quality comes with a higher price tag. For casual sewists or those on a tighter budget, some fabrics and classes might feel a bit pricey.
Friendly, informative staff
“I’m a brand new sewer, and I went in for some fabric. In the 10 min I was there, I learnt so much! The fabric quality is absolutely stunning and they have the coolest fabrics that I’ve ever seen. Going to all the fabric stores I was really impressed with their selection. I definitely spent more then I should have lol I highly recommend this place!
The bottom two fabrics are not from this place…fyi”

High-quality fabrics, approachable staff
“I’m so glad I checked this place out today! It’s not the biggest selection but the quality was top notch.
I’m getting back into sewing as a hobby and the store/owners are very approachable. I don’t necessarily find that at the bigger stores.
They also clearly know what kind of fabric selection people want for modern clothing and they had great knowledge about their products. I’ll be back!”

Business hours:

Central Sewing Machines Inc. made it to my list because it’s a comprehensive resource for sewing enthusiasts.
They carry a wide range of products, from sewing machines to accessories and notions, plus an impressive selection of fabrics and yard goods.
I was glad to see options like batting for quilting, fusible interfacing, trims, and even precut fabrics and kits. Having all of these materials in one place makes it easy to tackle any project without running all over town.
I also appreciated their range of classes. They have options for every skill level. Some classes even connect with the community, like the Zebra Club, where volunteers create quilts and bags for the Zebra Child Protection Center.
Beyond classes, the shop hosts gatherings for sewists to collaborate, learn from each other, and enjoy the craft as a community.
The only drawback I experienced was that there were some visits where it took a while to get assistance. I also noticed some items weren’t always in stock when I expected them to be.
Exceptional service

These guys go above and beyond. They really care about their costumer. 10 stars”

Phone: (780) 340-3474

Crazy Fabric Warehouse is my go-to spot whenever I’m on a budget. I can always find what I need without spending too much.
The staff was very polite and happy to help, answering my questions and guiding me to the fabrics I needed. Their friendly attitude made exploring the store even more enjoyable.
I was really impressed by their fabrics, especially the floral cottons. They were such great deals. Since all fabrics are sold in at least 2-meter cuts, I left with 32 meters for under $200. You really get a lot for your money here.
Besides the floral cottons, they also have quilting cottons and canvas. These are great for all sorts of sewing and craft projects.
I especially love their regular discounts, which make exploring new fabrics feel low-risk and affordable.
The store’s layout is convenient. I liked how it is organized by type and color, making it easy to browse and pick the right fabrics at my own pace.
It’s worth noting that checking stock or shopping online can be tricky, so visiting in person is the best way to see the full selection.
Great prices and selection
“This is the best fabric store in the city!! Great prices on high-quality fabric, a wide selection to choose from, and the staff are absolutely wonderful!”
- Jessica Humeniuk, Google Review
