When my grandma passed down her ancient couch, I thought, “Hey, this looks vintage!”…until I sat on it and half of the strings tried to rearrange my spine. It turns out “vintage” is not the same as “needs serious restoration”.

If you’ve got a favorite piece that’s falling apart, I feel your pain. And take it from me: the DIY restoration route usually ends with frustration and splinters (maybe even a tetanus shot). Sometimes, it’s best to call in the pros.

That’s why when I found a beautiful dresser at thrift store, I knew better than to tackle it myself. I went looking for real experts—and after some digging, I found the best furniture restoration services in Edmonton.

Check them out here!

How much does it cost to restore furniture in Edmonton?

It costs $100 to $500 per piece to restore furniture in Edmonton. The final cost depends on the extent of the restoration and the type of furniture. Intricate work, like antique restoration or extensive damage repairs, can go up to $1,500+.

I had a really good experience with Harvest Moon Furniture Refinishing. I brought in an old side table that had been in my family for years—it was scratched up and looked pretty hopeless.

When I got it back, it still felt like the same table, just fresh and properly cared for. They matched the stain and finished so well that it didn’t lose any of its original character, which I really appreciated.

One customer I talked to mentioned having her walnut dining set restored and said the same thing—the quality and attention to detail were spot-on.

Their shop is clean and organized, and you can tell they take a lot of pride in what they do. Steve, who runs it, has been restoring furniture for over 40 years, and it shows in how carefully he handles everything.

I also liked that they work with an upholstery studio if you need more than just refinishing.

One downside, though, the turnaround time can be a bit longer because they’re a smaller, specialized shop.

Pros

  • Over 40 years of expertise
  • Focus on preserving the original character
  • Clean, organized shop
  • Offers upholstery services
  • High-quality craftsmanship

Cons

  • Longer turnaround times

Impressive refinishing work

“I’m so impressed with the refinishing that Steve and Marlene did on our 30 yr old dining room table. We wanted it to match new chairs and the rest of our new kitchen. The final product was better than I could have imagined. It’s a perfect match and so beautifully finished!! Just amazing!! I love our new table!!”

Quality workmanship and knowledge

“Absolutely amazing work and service. Quality workmanship and knowledge you won’t find anywhere. Refurbished our teak dining table that was my parents so very important to me and I am thrilled how it turned out. It is a surprise for my husband and he was in awe. I could not recommend them more and continue to use them and spread the word. Many many thanks”

My friend recently had the opportunity to work with Rebel Refinishing and was impressed by their approach to furniture restoration. She brought in a vintage dresser that had seen better days—scratched, worn, and lacking its original luster.

Keshia, the owner, truly listened to her ideas and restored the piece’s former glory. It’s now a focal point in her living room, and I have to say I really fell in love with it when I visited.

When I dug into the company more, I appreciated that they work on a range of projects, from antique restoration to custom refinishing. They provide stripping, sanding, and finishing with the possibility of custom color and design.

They also deal with repairing nostalgic heirlooms, statues, and yard decorations.

That said, because they’ve got a smaller team, things can sometimes take longer. It’s worth asking about timing ahead of time, so you’re not caught off guard.

Pros

  • Custom furniture restoration and antique repair
  • Offers airbrushing and cabinet resurfacing
  • Custom color and design options
  • Focus on sustainability and upcycling
  • Personalized and creative approach

Cons

  • Small team

Outstanding refinishing work with creative expertise

“Keshia did amazing work refinishing my grandparents Server/Bar. She listened to what we were looking for and the finished product was beyond what we visioned for this piece. We are not very creative individuals, so we let her diver into her creative genius, and she did not disappoint. We are very happy with the outcome.”

Excellent restoration work with attention to detail

“Keshia was great to work with: enthusiastic with great attention to detail. Her pleasant personality made the experience effortless.

She did a fantastic job on restoring the 115y old Hames I inherited from my grandfather who homesteaded in Saskatchewan in the early 1900s. We highly recommend Keshia for any restoration project you have.”

I’ve had a few pieces done at Master Furniture, and I’d definitely recommend giving them a try. I remember bringing in an old dining chair that had some water damage, and I was seriously impressed with how it turned out.

Rick and his team did an amazing job—not just fixing it but making it look new again. The attention to detail stood out right away, like how they carefully aligned the wood grain where the damage had been so it didn’t look patched up.

Their facility also has a welcoming feel, which gave me a lot of confidence about leaving my piece with them.

They offer custom staining too, which I’m thinking of trying next time to save my vintage coffee table that my dog decided was his new chew toy.

The only drawback is that their services can be a bit on the pricier side. It felt like a fair trade-off for me, especially for pieces that actually mean something to you.

Pros

  • Skilled in custom staining, restoration, and repairs
  • Strong focus on craftsmanship and client care
  • Welcoming workspace
  • Organized showroom

Cons

  • High pricing

Outstanding craftsmanship and excellent customer service

“We had two walnut antique dressers repaired and refinished by Rick at Master Furniture R & R and we couldn’t be happier.  He is responsive to phone calls and e mails, and the quality of workmanship is outstanding.  We searched for a long time to have this work done properly.  Highly recommend!”

Fair pricing and reliable service

“selected Rick on basis of several reviews which my own recent experience echoed; excellent workmanship coupled with fair pricing and pleasant service makes Rick’s  a “go-to” for furniture repairs – our antique balloon back chair with front castors and antique tea trolley will now last for many more years!”

If you’ve got an old piece of furniture you’re attached to, The Old Wood Works is definitely worth a look. I came across them when I needed a grandfather clock restored, and honestly, they really know what they’re doing.

Their restoration service isn’t just about fixing the surface—it’s about bringing the piece back to life while keeping its original charm.

I like that they used period-correct methods. It sounds super fancy, but it basically means repairing structural issues, matching the original finishes, and making sure everything looks authentic without making it seem too modern.

Another thing I appreciated was how organized the shop is—not cluttered or messy like you might expect from a busy workshop. You could tell they treated each piece like it actually mattered.

Just a heads-up—because they’re so focused on the details, turnaround times can be a little slow.

Pros

  • Focus on authenticity
  • Uses period-correct methods
  • Organized, professional workshop
  • Expert in restoring various types of antiques

Cons

  • Not a fast-paced environment

Exceptional restoration work

“My mother’s cedar chest almost made it into the dumpster. Instead I made a decision to try to have it restored. I was honestly skeptical that it was possible.  Ellen  at Old Woodworks took it into her capable hands and brought it back to life over and above all expectation. Thank you so very much Ellen and Charlie for your beautiful work. The chest is not just a piece of furniture.  It is full of memories of my mom which are priceless, which can now be passed on to future generations.”

Expert restoration with personal care

“Charlie takes great pride in his work and his love of restoration and expertise thereof is evident from the moment you meet him.  He helped me fix an old table at a great price..not only that, I had walked in to see if the hinges he had (that are rare to find) would fit my piece, and he fixed it then and there, giving me a small history lesson about my table, as well as care and tlc instructions along the way. I would highly recommend Charlie to anyone.”

I once reached out to Fibrenew when I needed some repairs done on my apartment’s leather couch, and I was surprised—they made it look like new again!

What’s cool is that they come to you, so you don’t even have to leave the house. Terry, the guy who helped me, was super professional and really took his time to make sure everything was perfect.

They specialize in leather, vinyl, and plastic repairs, so they’ve got you covered if you’ve got a piece with any of those materials. One of my friends also worked with them on her car’s leather seats, and she was just as impressed.

What stood out about them is how they really extend the life of your furniture, so you’re not always tossing things out just because they’re a little worn. They repair cracks and re-dye faded spots so everything looks refreshed.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that they focus mainly on leather, vinyl, and plastic repairs. If you’ve got a wooden or fabric piece, they might not be the best fit for those types of restorations.

Pros

  • Mobile service, bringing repairs directly to your home
  • Specializes in leather, vinyl, and plastic repairs
  • Economical and sustainable alternative
  • Efficient and professional service

Cons

  • Limited scope of services

Excellent, affordable repair with great customer service

“I can’t say enough about the service I received from them. I was so pleased with the work he did on our sofa.We were thinking we would have to get a new one, but they were were able to fix it at a really reasonable price. II would recommend this business to anyone.”

Restored furniture to like-new condition

“Don replaced the foam in our sagging couch and loveseat and it’s like new again! Quality of work and service is exceptional. Highly recommend!”
