What kind of air conditioner do I need for my house

What kind of air conditioner do I need for my house?

Heating ventilation and air conditioning are integral parts of any home. Air conditioners, in particular, are a must-have home appliance.

When choosing an air conditioner for your house, you need to keep in mind several factors including budget, energy consumption, and cooling power.

Let us walk you through the different kinds of air conditioning so you can decide what you need for your house.

Central Air Conditioner

A central air conditioner uses a split system that regulates air ducts installed in your home. It cools your home using a refrigerant that pulls hot air from indoors while pushing cool air through the ducts.

It comes in two main units. One is an outdoor unit that packs in the condenser and compressor.

The other is the indoor unit that houses the evaporator coils and air handler.

Central air conditioning is best for large homes because it can effectively cool multiple rooms at once. It also reduces humidity for a more comfortable environment.

Central air conditioning also tends to score more in terms of resale value. Real estate agents tend to like places with central air conditioning so it may give you a better price in case you want to sell your house.

However, it also tends to rack up energy bills because of the electric consumption. You also need effective ventilation and an air duct system to properly utilize it.

Central air conditioning also runs the risk of developing mold and mildew in your house.

Ductless Mini-Split

If you don’t want a lot of ducting, going for a ductless system may work well for you. Ductless mini-split air conditioning features a single exterior compartment feeding evaporators through the inside of the house.

This type of air conditioning is small and compact and typically installs individual units for each room. This allows for a lot of flexibility in terms of heating and cooling because you can control the temperature for each room individually.

This type of unit is best for small to medium-sized homes.

It’s also pretty efficient in terms of energy consumption. However, it has a few downsides we want to take note of.

It cannot effectively cool down large houses, and since the indoor unit is visible, it may disrupt your interior design.

Window Air Conditioner

This type of air conditioning is one of the most popular among homeowners. Not only is it affordable, but it’s also energy-efficient and easy to clean.

It’s also easy to install and does not take up floor space. Maintenance for window air conditioners is also much easier than the other types we mentioned here.

It is, however, not the best in terms of cooling power. It’s more effective in smaller rooms and smaller houses and will not be practical if you have a large residence.

It can also be quite noisy, so some people find it disrupts their sleep

It is also important to note that not all windows support this type of air conditioning.
