We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Range of services - We looked at whether these hospitals offer both routine care and advanced treatments like surgery, oncology, and emergency services, ensuring pets can get help for most of their ailments.

Quality of facilities - We checked if they have modern equipment such as in-house labs, imaging tools, and specialised therapy setups that allow faster and more accurate diagnoses.

Expertise of staff - We considered the qualifications of their veterinarians and specialists, focusing on hospitals with experienced teams who handle complex cases confidently and compassionately.

Accessibility - We noted how easy each hospital is to reach within Edmonton, whether they provide 24/7 emergency care and if they offer flexible scheduling for busy pet owners.

Transparency and support - We evaluated how clearly they explain treatment plans and costs and how responsive their staff are when answering questions or managing urgent situations.

During what I thought would be a simple vet visit, I was told my dog might be showing early signs of mast cell tumours. Hearing that felt unreal. He’s been my best friend for almost 10 years, and I wasn’t ready to give up.

I decided to take him to one of Edmonton’s best animal hospitals, where skilled staff and advanced equipment handle even the toughest cases. Now he’s being treated by specialists and responding well, which gives me hope.

I’m sharing the best animal hospitals in Edmonton so others can find help fast. But if you just need routine checkups, there’s also a list of the best vet clinics in Edmonton.

One of the more well-known hospitals I came across is Edmonton West Animal Hospital. They provide a wide range of services, including dental care, physical checkups, and emergency treatment.

What caught my attention is how they handle specialised procedures like TPLO surgery for dogs with knee problems, which not every vet in the city offers. They also use veterinary laser therapy to help with pain relief and faster recovery.

The part I appreciate most is their full in-house lab since it means you don’t have to wait days for lab results. They’re open seven days a week, which is convenient, though not 24 hours, so late-night emergencies still need another hospital.

Financing options are available, but I’ve heard the final bill can sometimes differ from the quote.

Pros

  • Wide range of services
  • Performs Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery
  • Offers veterinary laser therapy for pain and healing
  • Full in-house lab with quick test results
  • Open 7 days a week
  • Instant financing options available

Cons

  • Not open 24 hours
  • Final bill can sometimes differ from the initial quote

Their great reputation is highly deserved for sure

“Wonderful service and hospital getting my dog spayed, microchipped and vaccinated there recently. The Edmonton West Animal Hospital provided me with very clear instructions before, during and after my girls spaying. She was very carefully treated and operated on and when I picked her up she seemed fine even after the procedure. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They were gentle with my baby and very very helpful treated her like she was their own little girl. Even helped me out to the car that day with her and the stuff to bring home with her. My girl is doing great now and is almost her normal self after a week now. I am having a hard time keeping her from running like a coyote after the squirrel in our back yard and jumping up and down already. The prices at the hospital are highly reasonable and the Edmonton West Animal Hospital is highly recommended by me. Honestly I will definitely take her back in the future for sure for other services for sure. Their great reputation is highly deserved for sure.”

The surgeon did a fantastic job

“Our dog has undergone TPLO surgery here for both of her back legs and I couldn’t be more thankful for this clinic. The surgeon did a fantastic job, and she’s healed up great both times. They were very transparent about cost, and provided so much support post operation. For the most part the reception staff are good, I think they’ve hired some new staff so there has been some miss communication but the ladies that have been there since her surgery last year are wonderful. They have fair prices and I’ve never had trouble getting in for an appointment, even when I’ve had to reschedule at the last minute.”

Another place that offers a diverse range of services is Century Park Animal Hospital. They’re not a 24-hour hospital, but being open seven days a week and handling emergencies until midnight makes them pretty handy.

They do laparoscopic spays, which are less invasive and help pets recover faster, and they even have an underwater treadmill for rehab. That’s pretty unique compared to most local hospitals.

They also handle advanced soft tissue surgeries, so it goes beyond the usual vaccines and checkups. Financing options are available, too, which can make a big difference when costs pile up.

The main drawback is the wait times. I’ve heard of clients having to wait for hours, which can be stressful when your pet is hurting.

Pros

  • Open 7 days a week with emergency care until midnight
  • Offers laparoscopic spays for faster recovery
  • Has an underwater treadmill for rehab and physiotherapy
  • Performs advanced soft tissue surgeries
  • Provides financing options

Cons

  • Not a 24-hour hospital
  • Wait times can be long

Great quality and great prices!

“Great quality and great prices! I brought my cat Maya this weekend as a walk-in. Maya was having a hard time walking and was dragging her back leg. The staff, from the receptionist, the tech’s, and the vet were all amazing and kind. No one made me feel rushed when I asked questions and every test was explained to me before doing and I was provided with quotes along the way. My favorite part of all was that I was provided with a print out at the end explaining all the conclusions made on Maya, results on her X-Rays, medications she was sent home with and medications she received while there. The vet and a tech both went over everything with me before we left. Really lovely experience and will be visiting again!”

I know he is getting the best treatment they can provide

“I’ve had such a great experience at this vet. Everyone is very kind and helpful. The vets and the techs are all easy to talk to, friendly and informative. The receptionists are great as well, they greet you with a kind smile and try to make us feel comfortable when we have to come in. I feel confident taking my cat here because I can tell the people who work there really care and I know he is getting the best treatment they can provide. I would definitely recommend anyone to take their animal here if you have an emergency. Thank you all so much at the century park animal hospital for helping me with my cat Oliver. It is so hard to deal with a pet that is unwell but you guys definitely made the experience a lot easier.”

Since pets can run into trouble at any hour, it’s nice knowing places like Pulse Veterinary Specialists & Emergency exist. They’re open 24 hours and run by local vets, which already gives a sense of trust.

I looked into them and found they’ve got some serious expertise on staff, including their own board-certified veterinary radiologist Dr Lukas Kawalilak, cardiologist Kim Hawkes, and neurologist Dr Casey Smith.

The hospital itself is modern, equipped with CT scans, MRIs, and all the advanced tools you’d expect from a top-tier facility.

It’s not exactly a budget-friendly option, though. Their fees are on the higher side, and they don’t offer ambulance transport, so you’ll have to bring your pet in yourself.

Still, for emergencies or complicated cases, Pulse is one of the few places around Edmonton that can handle most problems.

Pros

  • Open 24/7
  • Has its own board-certified veterinary radiologist
  • Offers cardiology and neurology treatments
  • Modern facility with advanced diagnostic tools

Cons

  • Fees are on the higher side
  • No ambulance or mobile transport service

The caring staff got her through her crisis

“Thank you so very much to the team at Pulse. Our girl Penny was booked to see a cardiologist for an EKG, but her condition spiralled before her appointment time and we had to bring her in as an emergency. She was given life saving care immediately and the caring staff got her through her crisis. The Doctors were direct with us throughout, patiently answering the questions I’m sure they’ve been asked a million times before. The reception and nurses put us at ease knowing our girl was in the best place for her. They went the extra mile to keep her company when they could, and substituted with a cardboard cut out of Harry Styles when they couldn’t. Each and every one of you makes such a difference in helping people and pets get through these hardships. What you do matters astronomically, and I respect the heck out of you all. A special shout out to Dr. Domenegato – you and your team are phenomenal 💜”

I cannot say enough good things about Pulse

I cannot say enough good things about Pulse. Our dog Boston has had his fair share of injuries and conditions that pulse has helped us navigate. Dr. Gilbert has done amazing work with Boston who has had two surgeries now. Dr. Cyrus has always been there for us no matter how big or small our problems have been with Boston. The rest of the staff are also patient and understanding in a job that would definitely have some bad days. If you’re looking for a great team to help you with your pet, these are your people.”

Heritage Valley Animal Hospital caught my attention for offering more than the usual services you’d expect from a vet clinic. They handle checkups, vaccines, and surgeries, but what really stood out to me was their nutritional counselling.

It’s nice to see a place that actually helps pet owners keep their animals strong and healthy instead of just selling food. They even have their own pet food delivery service, which makes life easier for busy owners.

It’s a good thing, too, that they provide ultrasonography, which they combine with x-ray imaging to get accurate diagnoses.

On the financial side, they’re partnered with Scratchpay, so paying for treatments is less stressful. However, it’s disappointing that they can only direct bill Trupanion insurance, which limits convenience for others.

Their operating hours are also a bit inconsistent, which is a bit frustrating, especially if you’re visiting for the first time.

Pros

  • Offers ultrasonography for accurate diagnostics
  • Provides nutritional counselling
  • Has Scratchpay financing
  • Pet food home delivery service available

Cons

  • Inconsistent operating hours
  • Only directly bills Trupanion insurance
  • Not a 24-hour hospital

The experience was 10/10 from the moment I first called

“We only had our first visit today but I am definitely happy with how it went! The experience was 10/10 from the moment I first called. The lady I spoke with on the phone was so knowledgeable and very informative, we were able to get an appointment on the same day and the prices were reasonable. They were so kind and professional when we came in for our appointment; our puppy was instantly calm with all the staff – especially the veterinarian. We are happy to continue our puppy’s health journey here!”

It is an absolutely incredible place for pet care!

“I have had a couple of visits to Heritage Valley Animal Hospital with my Dozer. One for an operation for a hematoma in his ear. I had another vet tell me he has never seen this operation done so well before. The staff are incredible, very helpful, and friendly. I would recommend anyone who has a pet that they love, to come here for their care! It is an absolutely incredible place for pet care!”

The place that’s currently helping my dog with his mast cell tumours is Boreal Veterinary Centre.

It’s a huge, modern hospital equipped with high-tech devices like the Canon 64-slice CT and the Storz Silver Scope, which is why I fully trust them with my pet’s well-being.

It also helps that they offer a solid range of specialty services. Their dedicated oncology department is handling my dog’s treatment, and they also have cardiology, surgery, and internal medicine.

I’m impressed that they’ve developed advanced anaesthetic care and have a resident anaesthesiologist who uses vital monitoring equipment to make sure pets stay safe and comfortable during operations.

It’s worth noting, too, that they offer radioactive iodine treatment for cats with hyperthyroidism, which is pretty unique.

The only downside is the cost, which is quite steep. Thankfully, my pet insurance covers most of my dog’s treatment.

Pros

  • Modern facility with advanced imaging and surgical tools
  • Board-certified specialists in oncology, cardiology, and anaesthesiology
  • Offers radioactive iodine treatment
  • 24/7 emergency services available
  • Offers advanced wound therapy services

Cons

  • Fees are on the higher side
  • Located on the northwest edge of Edmonton

They took very good care of my dogs

“We have brought our two dogs to boreal and have NEVER regretted it! We just recently got a surgery for our dog Frappuccino (she completely tore her CCL). We were able to get a consultation with the surgeon and get surgery literally the NEXT day, it all only took less than two weeks to book everything!! They took very good care of my dogs and in my opinion, they have very reasonable prices for the service. Dr. Lindsey did an amazing job to explain to us thoroughly the surgical procedure. Brittney handled our discharge paperwork and was extremely kind and helpful with explaining the recovery process for our dog (: At boreal, they truly LOVE animals and treat everyone with respect and care. We will always choose them to be our primary vet!!!🙏🏼❤️”

Had the most amazing experience here!

“Had the most amazing experience here! We were referred by our general vet for a scope. They called me THAT night and got me an appointment 4 days later. When you walk in, the receptionist is so warm and welcoming. Instantly noticed how clean it was too. We saw Dr. Flint and her vet tech Megan in internal medicine. Megan is an absolute ray of sunshine and instantly made my stress and anxiety at ease. My dog had a bunch of testing and a scope done to get diagnosed with chronic bronchitis. Megan had called the following day to just check in. The little things the team did meant the most to us. We had another follow up today and another great experience. Will absolutely come back here and recommend to friends and family. Thank you everyone!!”
