LovePizza is a triple family threat: it’s family-owned, family-run, and a family-style restaurant. With its modern take on a traditional pizzeria, it’s been serving Edmontonians since 2016.

Kids will enjoy dining in LovePizza because of the special Pizzelle cookies and the free craft sticks they can play with when dining in. A special Kids Cut Meal is available for children 10 years old and under but on Sundays, they eat for free all day!

If you don’t want to dine in, you’ll like the LovePizza app, where you can order directly for delivery or pickup, with special loyalty points earned for each mobile order. You earn 1 point per $1 spent, and when you have accumulated a total of 150 points, you get a free pizza.

We can tell that LovePizza cares about kids because they’ve partnered with Healthy Hunger, a catering service that provides school lunches. If you’re an educator looking for meals that are properly labelled, packaged, and served hot, this is the restaurant for you.

We also like that LovePizza is aware of dietary restrictions, listing the ingredients of their dough online as well as providing a downloadable allergen guide. They offer keto, gluten-free, and vegetarian options as well.

Whether you order a Plain Jane or a more exotic Donair-za, everybody in the family will find something to chow down on at LovePizza.

Pros

  • Kids eat free on Sunday
  • Provides ingredient and allergen information
  • Multiple locations in the Edmonton Area

Cons

  • No pasta and limited selection of sides
  • Limited beverage menu

Customer Reviews

Guests seem to appreciate that LovePizza provides keto and gluten-free options. Garren Grey, writes his experience:

“The pizza is great for keto and gluten free patrons. So yummy Pizza well order again and tell friends. Thanks LOVEPIZZA!!”

Natalie Chan visited LovePizza and liked the options for different crusts. She shares:

“Love the atmosphere. Good for large groups and kids. Service was polite and quick. I ordered the Old Macdonald and it was really delicious. I liked that there was an option for classic traditional and whole grain for crust. Will definitely be back!”

If you’ve been living under a rock and still don’t know what YEG means, it’s the airport code for the city of Edmonton. With such an aptly fitting name, it’s no wonder that locals are travelling far distances just to have a taste of Yeg Burger’s menu.

Nothing says family day more than enjoying a plateful of juicy burgers and hand-cut fries. At YEG Burger, kids will enjoy the different menu options and the grownups can have a cheat day.

All beef patties here are Halal-certified, which means that cows are slaughtered according to Islamic Law. Although you can choose to grab their signature 152 Burger or Donair Burger, what really steals the show at YEG Burger is their Buttermilk Chicken Burger.

If the kids can’t chomp down the generous helpings, they can grab a traditional hotdog and pair it with the Cheeseburger Poutine, which has hand-cut potatoes drizzled with cheese and gravy.

When you need something to wash it all down, you’ve got seven flavours of milkshakes to choose from such as Ferrero Rocher and Nutella.

On the flipside, Yeg Burger is also an active member of the community that continually creates special promotions with a portion of the proceeds going toward organizations such as Stollery Children’s Hospital and school athlete foundations.

In short, what better way to enjoy a meal as a family than to show them the importance of family? By taking your fam to Yeg’s Burger, you help a local business thrive and help out their families as well.

Pros

  • Halal-certified beef
  • Fresh hand-cut potatoes
  • Family-owned and operated

Cons

  • Inconsistent operating hours
  • Only one branch in Edmonton

Customer Reviews

YEG Burger may only have one location, but customers are willing to drive the distance. Michael Dam, is one such customer, as he writes:

“Everything here is good. You can’t choose wrong from the burger menu. And the milkshakes are equally delicious. I only wish they would open a second location on the south side. It’s so far to drive. Still worth it.”

Jackie Lemoine and her family will also drive to Yeg Burger, even though they live far out. She shares:

“Love this place, my family and I will drive here from way southwest of the city. The burgers are great, I get the breakfast burger. My husband gets the Like a Mac burger which he likens to the old (better) Big Mac. One of the real super stars for me are the fries. The gravy tastes my grandma’s that I would willingly drink.”

For some people, taking the kids to a vegetarian and vegan restaurant is the last thing on their minds. However, when it comes to Padmanadi, it just might be your first choice for a meal.

With the increase in popularity of veganism and healthy eating, visiting this restaurant with the family is a wonderful way to introduce children to the joys of healthy choices at an early age. Serving veggie meat alternatives, even adults will be surprised at how good meatless food can be.

Opened by Indonesian immigrants, this family-owned operation hoped to bring their unique flavours from Jakarta to the city of Edmonton. They’ve been operating since 2004, starting as a vegetarian restaurant and slowly expanding the menu to feature plant-based dishes with flavours from Chinese, Thai, and Indian cuisine.

Recognized by Yelp as one of the top 100 restaurants in Canada, Padmanadi delivers its mix of Asian cuisines for Edmontonians to enjoy. If it’s your first time visiting, we’d recommend the Padmanadi Platter, which contains a variety of all the veggie meats for you to sample.

Kids can have some staples such as Vegetable Spring Rolls or the Crispy Chicken Strips while the grownups can have some Ginger Beef and Curry Mutton, all made with faux meat. When the weather’s below freezing, you can choose from a wide array of soups such as Tom Yum or Wonton Soup.

We recommend making reservations at the Downtown location to experience the full menu of Padmanadi and to see their iconic statue of Buddha. The Southside location has a limited menu and only accepts walk-ins but is well worth a visit as well.

Pros

  • All vegan menu
  • Wide selection of Asian fusion dishes
  • Two locations in Edmonton

Cons

  • Southside location has a more compact menu
  • Downtown location closed on Mondays
  • Not a lot of free parking nearby

Customer Reviews

Whether you’re an omnivore or vegan, there’s something for you at Padmanadi. Leah Harman recommends:

“My family and I have been coming here since they first opened! Always incredible service and amazing food. Even if you aren’t vegetarian, you will LOVE this restaurant!”

Clayton Lachance enjoys the generous portion sizes, as he shares:

“A favourite Edmonton restaurant with fun Asian inspired plant based options. The Chicken Curry (mild has best flavour) and Ginger beef (very good but not like typical ginger beef) are always on the order list.  It’s a sharing style menu, so while you can go with 1 or 2, we find it better when you go with a few friends and can order more variety.  Would be great if they opened a Calgary location next!”

Sometimes you just want to dine out with the family and eat some fuss-free food without having to ogle over a menu or decipher the flavours. This is what makes The Old Spaghetti Factory a popular choice among families looking to share “meals and memories together”.

The iconic stained glass windows and vintage decor of The Old Spaghetti Factory is a familiar and comforting sight in Edmonton. Proudly owned and operated by Canadians with multiple owners, this iconic restaurant has been serving families all-inclusive meals since 1970.

What makes this restaurant stand out is its full-course entrees that are served with a starter salad, soup, sourdough bread with whipped garlic butter, spumoni ice cream, and a choice of coffee or tea. Not only are the portions generous and good for sharing, but everything is affordable as well.

Their Family Entrees have serving sizes good for four to six people, which include Spaghetti with Meatballs, Tortellini Pomodoro, Fettuccine Alfredo, and Chicken Parmigiana. Whether you’re a large family or celebrating a special occasion, The Old Spaghetti Factory has you covered.

We like that despite being around for a long time, they’ve evolved and adapted to current food trends by including vegetarian and vegan offerings. They also have a special dedicated gluten-free menu for those who have dietary restrictions, serving pasta that’s made out of corn with your choice of sauce.

While you may not experience any mind-blowing or unique creations at this restaurant, what you’ll taste are familiar flavours of pasta and other Italian staples, allowing you to enjoy a classic meal in the company of your family.

Pros

  • Provides nutrition guide online for each dish
  • Has vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menu items
  • Family entrees that are good for sharing

Cons

  • No unique dishes
  • Small selection of beverages and desserts

Customer Reviews

The Old Spaghetti Factory is a fan favourite no matter what province you visit. Joy, a regular patron, shares her thoughts:

“The Old Spaghetti Factory is a restaurant that I have always loved and appears to be the same experience in different provinces. The service is always great and same with the food. I had the sauteed mushrooms, seafood chowder, lasagna  and pistachio chocolate ice cream. Try them all!!”

Dan Clark, is another regular customer that’s been visiting The Old Spaghetti Factory since he was a child. He shares:

“My fav restaurant hands down. Not just in Edmonton, but anywhere. The food is always great, it’s well priced, and the service is always excellent…I have been coming here for literally decades. First with my parents, now with my wife and kids. The managers know our family by name, and always make a point of coming over to talk when we come in.”

5.   MEAT

OPERATING HOURSMonday to Sunday: 11:00 am – 10:00 pm

This restaurant is for all the carnivores out there who can’t live without their meat. Be forewarned that you might need help getting up from your chair after your meal at MEAT.

Locally owned and operated, MEAT is ideal to visit when your tummies are rumbling and you want to dig into a generous platter of protein. Serving hefty portion sizes, each hungry member of your family will find something to choose from the menu.

If it’s your first time, you’ll want to go for the MEAT Sample Platter, which has half-a-pound each of their signature Beef Brisket and Pulled Pork. It also has a half-rack of ribs, fried chicken, smoked chicken, and one link of their Andouille Sausage.

Don’t want the sample platter? To give you a better idea of entree sizes, the Pulled Pork and Beef Brisket are served in a heaping one-pound pile of melt-in-your-mouth protein.

What makes their slow-cooked meat shine is their homemade sauces that are perfectly paired with every entree. If you want some good old-fashioned ribs, then prepare to get your hands messy with their full or half-rack served with your choice of bourbon, cherry, spicy mustard, or maple chilli barbecue sauces.

Both kids and grownups won’t have trouble choosing from MEAT’s menu, as most are traditional flavours of authentic Southern BBQ. Don’t expect a novel recipe to surprise your palette here, because what you’ll get is a hearty meal with tried-and-tested recipes that almost anybody will enjoy.

They have a special brunch menu on weekends that’s available from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, which includes Churro Waffles, Southern Grits, and their signature MEAT Breakfast. The serving sizes during this time are for a single person, so it’s a great option if you don’t want to stuff yourself too much.

What surprised us at MEAT is the inclusion of several vegetarian options, such as their Vegetarian Sandwich, which makes this restaurant a great option if somebody in your family doesn’t eat meat. If you’re vegan though, you may want to steer clear of this restaurant.

With homemade sauces, slow-cooked entrees, and mouthwatering sides your family will love sharing a meal together at MEAT.

Pros

  • Generous portion sizes
  • Family-friendly atmosphere
  • Traditional barbecue menu

Cons

  • A little on the expensive side
  • No vegan or gluten-free options
  • No nutritional guides provided

Customer Reviews

If MEAT is known for anything, it’s the portion sizes. Carmen Choo is a fan of the servings here  as she comments:

“Absolutely amazing place! Great place for “meat” lovers and portioning is great for sharing. Ordered a sampler to split between 3 people and there was enough for for leftovers”

Like we recommended earlier, the Meat Platter is a real winner at META. Rene L seems to agree as she writes:

“One of my favorite restaurants in town. The meat platter is our go to and most of their sides are delicious…this was a great place to with a group of friends for a family style meal and hopefully it will be again soon.”
