We tried ​​Time Escape for one of our team-building activities, and we found it to be fun and interactive. So we highly recommend this place if you’re looking for an unconventional date idea! 

They have different themed rooms including The Prophecy, The Imperial Palace, Spaceship Mysteries, Castle Secrets, and Time Warp – our personal favorite being The Imperial Palace. 

How it works is you have to solve a sequence of logic puzzles and unlock access to items by sniffing out clues and interacting with the room in a specific way. The ultimate goal is to open the final door for your escape within 45 minutes. 

Pro Tip: Although it’s recommended that you make a reservation (especially for big groups), drop ins are also accommodated. 

2. Play a game or two at Victoria Golf Course

If you and your partner enjoy a good game of golf, then Victoria Golf Course is one of your best bets. It’s the oldest city-run course (developed in 1896)! 

We think the fairways and greens of Victoria are forgiving, so it’s ideal for beginners out there who want to try it out. Plus we love the view here – definitely worth checking out yourselves.

Unleash your inner child and visit LaunchPad Trampoline Park here in Edmonton with your date. They have over 2229 square meters of custom-made trampolines where you can skip and jump to your heart’s content. 

We love the friendly and warm atmosphere here so much. Everyone of all ages and abilities is welcome, and there are plenty of jump areas to choose from – trampoline dodgeball courts, foam pit area, basketball courts, climbing walls, and many more.

If you’re looking for a challenge that will test your limits, a day at Boulders Climbing might be a great idea for you and your date. It’s a fun and exhilarating option if you want something different. 

We love that aside from bouldering, they even have studio spaces where you can take yoga and dance classes. It’s a wonderful place you should visit at least once.

Plaza Bowling Co. has been around since 1959 – they have vintage 5-pin original wood lanes, maple benches, scoring tables, and the works. The whole place is just bursting with character. 

Although you can enjoy a game with just your partner, we think this activity is best if you’re planning a group date. Do know that they don’t allow walk-ins and would need a reservation.

If you’re an 80s or 90s kid who grew up on arcade games, you’ll get a kick out of GRETA Bar YEG. It’s an arcade with oversized brick archways, wood-beam ceilings, and murals for that vintage feel. 

They have loads of popular games such as Donkey Kong, Tetris, and Pinball – talk about a throwback. You can also play Pop-A-Shot Basketball and Air Hockey with your date for a more interactive experience. 

They’re usually hired for corporate parties and networking functions, but we think it’s also a great place to bring a significant other for a nostalgic date sure to bring out the kids in you.

If you both love the water, then you should consider going to World Waterpark. They have the world’s largest indoor wave pool with an average temperature of 31°C. It has over 17 different waterslides and features that will spark your taste for adventure. 

Some of the highest slides are Twister, Sky Screamer, and Cyclone – all are over 25.3 meters high. So yes, they take their slides very seriously here. 

They also have hot tubs, surf lessons, a bar, and places to get some snacks. It’s a family place but we think it can also be potentially an extremely fun date. 

Pro Tip: You can rent a towel for $3 if you forget! They also have lockers and cabana rentals. 

9. Have a romantic brunch at Versailles Cafe

We absolutely adore brunch so when we discovered this cafe, we fell head over heels in love. 

They have omelets, French toast, buttery croissants, macarons, tarts, and – wait for it – quiches. 

Aside from brunch items. We’re also fans of their decadent desserts and coffee. Plus the ambiance here is just wonderful – with beautiful interiors and a calm and relaxed vibe. 

Pro Tip: Don’t miss out on their salmon omelet – it’s our team’s personal favorite! 

10. Taste all 80 unique flavors at 80 Flavours Meadowlark

For those with a sweet tooth, we highly recommend a visit at 80 Flavours Meadowlark. Great for after-dinner desserts, from our experience.

They have a WIDE  selection of ice cream, no-sugar-added ice cream for guiltless indulgence, frozen yogurt, sorbet, and sherbet. I mean they’re not called 80 Flavours for nothing. 

Pro Tip: Although they have some tables and benches around the area, we prefer finding a spot in the grass to enjoy our ice cream, which you’ll see a lot of patrons do as well. If you’re like us, you can bring a picnic blanket along or anything you can sit on.

If it takes you and your partner a long time to decide where to eat (i.e. long-drawn back and forths of “Where do you want to eat?” and “Anywhere, you decide”), we have the perfect solution. Take them to a place with many choices such as EPIC 5th St.. 

They have four restaurants under one roof starting with Gnudi by Chef Cam Nelson which serves handcrafted pasta dishes. Pick this if you enjoy bold flavors and aren’t watching your carb intake. 

They also have OilBurgers with the best gourmet burgers and sides for chill nights. This is perfect for when you want some grub while watching a game at home. 

Next is Meat Shack Barbecue for low and slow Texas barbecue. Meat lovers will adore this place plus they have lots of tasty sides to choose from. 

Lastly, they also have Seitans for our vegan friends out there that serve plant-based Southern food. We love their vegan fried chickun, sourdough crust pizza, and dairy-free cheezecake. 

Pro Tip: While we love that they have a wide range of choices, it can also be quite overwhelming when you get there. So make sure to browse their menus beforehand so you get a feel of what you want to try. 

12. Have a perfect first date at El Beso

If you find yourself in central downtown Edmonton, then make sure to try El Beso – one of YEG’s hottest Mexican eateries. We love their Ancho Suadero tacos on house-made tortillas (They’re to die for! We’re craving them right now.)

They also have delicious cocktails and a list of handpicked tequila and mezcal. It’s a wonderful place to eat good food and drink. 

Pro Tip: The casual feel of this place makes this a good first-date place!

If you’re looking for a great vegan option, we think Padmanadi is a must-try. It’s a vegan Indonesian restaurant that you can find in two locations here in Edmonton. 

Their menu has Chinese, Thai, Indian, and Indonesian dishes now – so you have plenty of choices. We love that it’s a family-owned business with very hands-on owners. 

When their family moved to Canada in 2002, they decided to recreate a similar restaurant their family had in the 1970s in Jakarta. Just like their previous restaurant, Padmanadi is also a raging success. 

The food is fresh, delicious, and unique! Definitely worth bringing a date to! 

Pro Tip: Aside from their food, their smoothies are the bomb and worth checking out. You can choose from Green Nature, Coco Nutty, Morning Glory, or Tropical Plant for the flavors.

It’s no secret that the Best in Edmonton team love pastries – so we always love going to Duchess Bake Shop. With the smell of fresh bread wafting in the air and friendly staff, it’s always a delightful visit. 

We always end up with bags filled with bread and honestly? – we have no regrets. Aside from croissants, brownies, and butter tarts, there’s a special place in our hearts for their macarons. 

They make all their products daily from scratch, so you’re sure you’re getting good quality. So make sure to treat your sweet to some sweets!

Another great restaurant, Friends & Neighbors Cafe has been around since 1981. Since then, they’ve built a name for themselves in the city for the quality of their food and services. 

They have a very relaxed environment here serving some good comfort food. We love their pancakes and sandwiches the most but they have so much to choose from! 

Definitely, a great place to take your date for a breakfast date or a go-to place on bad days to get comfort food. 

Pro Tip: They have a vegan menu and a lot of soup-based dishes!

17. Take glorious walks hand-in-hand at Muttart Conservatory

The Muttart Conservatory is absolutely beautiful and we highly recommend a day trip here. It’s one of the country’s largest indoor botanical collections. 

They have what they call the Pyramids, which is a section that has over 700 species of plants in three climate-regulated biomes: arid, temperate, and tropical. They also have a feature pyramid where you can enjoy themed displays. 

You can either go on a guided tour, but if you prefer to explore it at your own pace, you can opt for a self-guided tour with your date – which is perfect if you want to leisurely stroll and talk. 

We love seeing the orchids, banana trees, huge palm trees, cacti, exotic desert species, and Eucalyptus trees.  The whole place is just a feast to the eyes.

Pro Tip: Check out the Culina café inside the place – we recommend the roasted chicken and pumpkin hazelnut soup! 

18. Relax at Broadmoor Lake Park

Nothing beats a good old-fashioned picnic in a park – and Broadmoor Lake Park is no ordinary park. It has beautiful views and plays such a colorful role in the life of the community. 

They have different amenities such as asphalt trails, plenty of seating areas and picnic areas, washrooms, a spray park, volleyball courts, sports fields, and a picnic shelter. 

So whether you want to play sports or just relax, you can do so in this park. Plus – admission is free, so it’s the perfect date idea if you have a limited budget. 

We adore the picnic shelter because you can reserve it for your needs. It has picnic tables, a large fire pit, counter space, access to power, and washroom access. 

So if you’re going on a group date, we can’t recommend this enough! Just make sure to reserve at least a week in advance to ensure a slot. 

Pro Tip: Make sure to be reminded that smoking and drinking are not allowed. 

19. Appreciate plants at St. Albert Botanic Park

This park is dedicated to the collection, cultivation, and display of all kinds of plants. We love that they have labels of their scientific names. 

We found out that this park is maintained and operated by volunteers, which is such a testament to Canadian camaraderie and spirit. Plus, it’s free to enter! 

Do know that this park isn’t a play or picnic park, it’s more of a park to appreciate plants. You can take it further by bringing a camera and going on a nature walk with your partner. 

Professional photography sessions must be booked in advance, however.

20. Get up close and personal with sea creatures at Marine Life

If you want to be part of Ariel’s world, exploring Marine Life at Sea Life Caverns is the closest thing. It’s a wonderful underground aquarium with over a hundred species of sharks, fish, sea turtles, amphibians, reptiles, penguins, and invertebrates. 

It’s an educational, fun, and interesting date idea. For us, we recommend it as a before-dinner date, so you’d have plenty to talk about after. 

You can catch the sea lion shows, meet penguins, and get up close and personal with their creatures through interactive exhibits. 

Pro Tip: The sea lions show starts at 2 PM on weekends. Arrive at least 20 minutes before to ensure your slot. 

21. See how talented local performers are at Citadel Theatre

This Edmonton-grown theater is a must-visit if you want to see amazing productions and talented artists. They provide polished and inventive live experiences that take people to other worlds. 

We love that this theater is passionate about the role of young people in the shows. This shows in their programming and various initiatives for the youth including camps, theater classes, etc. 

Granted, live theater can be expensive, but we have to vouch for the quality of the shows and the talent of local performers here. It’s worth the investment.

22. See great shows at The Arden Theatre

The Arden Theatre opened its doors in 1983, and since then they have hosted a lot of talented artists such as Celine Dion, Robert Cray, Arlo Guthrie, Jann Arden, a lot of local musicians, dance schools, theatre groups, and school productions. 

We love going here because the shows are versatile plus we really dig the sound system. They have a state-of-the-art sound console, new theater seating, aisle lighting, and many more. 

They are very accessible, with a wheelchair-accessible lobby, washrooms, and seating. They also have an infrared hearing system and sensory support devices upon request. 

Pro Tip: Cell phones must be turned off before entering the theater.

The Stanley A. Milner Library is known as the flagship branch of the Edmonton Public Library – and one of our favorite places to be. 

With meeting rooms, photocopiers, printers, fast Wi-Fi, and a 24-hour book return, it’s a conducive space to read, study, work, or even have productive meetings. You can have a productive date with your significant other here.

If you’re up to learn about our history, then a trip to Fort Edmonton Park can be another great date idea. It’s the largest living history museum in Canada – and it’s so fascinating to visit.
