The Best Spine Specialists in Edmonton to Partner with on Your Recovery

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Experience: Document, membership, and registry checks were conducted to select spine specialists with at least 5 years of hands-on, post-training experience. Clinic longevity also mattered, and only spots open for 3-plus years were picked.

Credentials: You’ll only find clinics with board- and fellowship-certified specialists below, particularly those with residency training. To validate, our team collected info from relevant directories and registries.

Communication Skills: We chose specialists who provide clear explanations and establish rapport effectively. How fast or professionally they (or their staff) usually respond was rated as well, mainly through interviews and personal experience.

Approach: Specialists who perform minimally invasive surgeries and modern techniques were prioritised. For verification, we inspected service listings, fellowship training documents, interviews, case studies, and feedback.

Pricing: Patient-reported outcome measures, facility quality, price transparency, and the criteria above were considered when comparing clinic fees.

Life can be back-breaking. Years ago, I started feeling numbness running down my leg and settling in my lower back.

Getting it checked saved my spine. Turns out, I had underlying issues that could’ve turned into full-blown sciatica if my long-time friend hadn’t nudged me toward a spine specialist.

What counts as one, you ask? It’s a medical professional who can diagnose and treat spine-related conditions, such as scoliosis, sciatica, and vertebral fractures.

You’ll find some examples below, and they’re among the city’s best in terms of results and safety.

For further pain relief, you also might want to check out these acupuncture clinics.

How much does a spine specialist appointment cost in Alberta?

In Alberta, a spine specialist appointment typically costs between $250 and $300.

Alternative care providers price differently, with chiropractors billing $150–$250 per session and physiotherapists charging $100–$170.

1. Curvy Spine

curvy-spine-logo

Address: 10041 81 Ave NW

Website

Curvy Spine is a physiotherapy clinic that puts the Schroth Method to work. It’s a non-surgical technique that employs specialized breathing, posture awareness, and targeted exercises to treat scoliosis and kyphosis.

It’s also research-backed. Evidence obtained through clinical trials points to its effectiveness in reducing pain and correcting posture, which our interviewees agree with.

The other fab part is it’s suitable for patients of all ages. In fact, we met young and old clients who found the method effective and highly personalized.

That said, the Schroth Method requires commitment. Even the clinic’s doctors will tell you it’s too methodical and complex for one-time visits.

Calling early and locking in multiple sessions is also smart, since slots run out quickly. Some clients even book 5 appointments in advance!

Fortunately, Curvy Spine offers virtual follow-ups and multi-day, intensive programs for out-of-town patients.

Pros

  • Open for over two decades
  • Specializes in treating scoliosis and kyphosis
  • Employs the proven Schroth Method
  • Out-of-town programs
  • Offers virtual follow-ups

Cons

  • Requires long-term commitment
  • Slots run out fast

The results so far have exceeded my expectations!

Last week I traveled from California in the US to start treatment with Sanja for my very severe complicated adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and adult degenerative scoliosis that has worsened over the years. We did a three day intensive program and WOW the results have been amazing and in such a short time. I feel and look so much taller, straighter and with much better mobility through all of my body and spine. And we are just getting started!! I am a PT and have some training and experience in PSSE/Schroth myself and knew that Sanja was one of the best therapists internationally for scoliosis/kyphosis treatment, research and professional training and why I choose to come up to see her. And I am so glad that I did!! The results so far have exceeded my expectations!!! PSSE/Schroth is a huge committment and isn’t a quick easy fix so expect to work hard when you start this type treatment. But if you have need of scoliosis/kyphosis care do not hesitate to contact Sanja as she is a hidden gem in Edmonton. I will keep everyone posted as I go further into my care at Curvy Spine with Sanja.

Has Changed My Life

I can’t say enough great things about Curvy Spine. It has changed my life!

I came in with debilitating back pain that was hindering my daily life along with a new to me scoliosis diagnosis.

I had a 4 day extensive treatment designed for me using the schroth method, and left with pictures & videos to remind and help me succeed and continue at home.

Amanda was so in tune to my spine/body’s curves, habits, and needs and was able to help me learn to incorporate what we worked on into my daily life as well.

I am forever grateful and beyond relieved that I will be able to do the things I didn’t think were still possible. I can already feel the progress and barely any pain!! My outlook on travel and activities has broadened again.

I would recommend 100%. I’m so happy my doctor recommended Curvy Spine. I wish more people knew about it!

2. Momentum Sport & Spine Physiotherapy

Address: 5108 Mullen Rd

Contact Details: +1 587-409-4495

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Fri – 8 am to 8 pm
  • Sat – 9 am to 2 pm

Website

Variety in specialised treatments is Momentum’s biggest strength. Unlike entrants sticking to one care type, the clinic has licensed pros from different practices, including physiotherapy, massage therapy, and even acupuncture!

For that reason, they can manage and have cured a large number of spine-related conditions. We mean injuries, neck/back pain, sciatica, headaches, and more.

Clients even have the option to hire a mental consultant if they reckon their mindset is slowing down progress.

A not-so-perfect bit is their queue management. One client, for instance, was quite miffed about waiting 15 minutes past their original schedule.

You can’t rock up without calling either; reservations are mandatory.

Good thing the staff aren’t a pain to deal with. Beyond getting results, therapists such as Giri and Naima are often described by patients as personable.

Virtual sessions (usually through conference calls) can also be set for those with little time to spare.

Pros

  • Employs a wide range of evidence-based modalities
  • Treats numerous conditions
  • Comes with a mental consultant
  • Offers virtual sessions
  • Open for over 3 years

Cons

  • Few instances of slow queue management
  • Requires bookings

Effective and Compassionate

I cannot recommend Momentum Sport and Spine Physio clinic highly enough! After several falls, my mother needed expert care to regain her strength and mobility, and the team here went above and beyond to support her recovery.

Special thanks to Amisha and Prabhu, whose professionalism, patience, and genuine care made all the difference. They tailored a recovery plan that was both effective and compassionate, and it’s clear they truly care about their patients’ well-being.

The reception team and Nicole was also fantastic—always friendly, organized, and welcoming, making each visit smooth and stress-free.

Thanks to the entire Momentum team, my mother has made incredible progress, and we couldn’t be more grateful. If you are looking for top-notch physiotherapy with a caring and skilled team, this is the place to go! Truly a 5-star clinic!

Very Professional

I’ve had a great experience at Momentum Sport & Spine Physiotherapy Clinic in Terwillegar. My physiotherapist, “Prabhu”, has been very knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely invested in helping me recover from my injuries after my car accident. He makes full use of the session time, never rushes, and you can really feel that you’re getting the proper care you’re paying for.

The office admin “Nicole” has also been amazing. She is very friendly, helpful, and always flexible with scheduling. Her help in dealing with my insurance was invaluable. She made the whole process as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Overall, the clinic is always clean and organized, and staff was very professional, fair, with good time management, and truly committed to their patients. I’m grateful for their support and highly recommend them.

Time hasn’t weathered the quality of Whyte Ave Sport & Spine. The clinic still racks stellar reviews despite opening way back in 1996.

Much of the praise comes down to their multidisciplinary staff and team approach. Chiropractic care (also offered by these clinics), physiotherapy, and massage therapy are all integrated into their recovery plans.

Particularly well-regarded for his patience and expertise in biomechanics is Dr Myles Berlin. From what we heard, physiotherapy sessions with him are always one-on-one, and he doesn’t force patients to book follow-ups.

Dr Doug Yee has also earned glowing feedback for resolving pain with customized treatments. What’s great is he doesn’t rely on chiropractic methods alone; his modalities include Graston Techniques, hardstyle kettlebell, functional range systems, and more.

Where they lag behind other clinics is in team size. Whyte only has four practitioners, and that’s not the best news considering the high demand.

Pros

  • Open since 1996
  • Multidisciplinary care
  • Has a rehab gym
  • Open daily
  • Collaborative approach

Cons

  • Very small team
  • High demand

Really Happy with the Progress

I’ve been seeing Myles for about past three weeks now for my shoulder and arm pain, and I’m already feeling a big improvement. I still have a little bit discomfort but it’s so much better than before. Myles is very knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely cares about your recovery. He explains everything clearly and makes you feel comfortable throughout the sessions. He is very friendly I’m really happy with the progress so far and would highly recommend him♥️🙏

I can’t thank him enough.

Dr. Doug Yee is amazing. He doesn’t just look at my symptoms. He looks at the root cause to help my body get back to normal. I’ve been to many Physio and chiropractic offices before, however Dr. Yee is best I’ve ever seen. He takes time to teach me not only the muscles/tissue that I have damaged but the underlying issues I have. I feel like I’ve learned more about my body in the month I have been seeing him than I have previously in my entire life! I can’t thank him enough.

4. Signature Spinal Care

Address: 16440 Ellerslie Rd SW

Contact Details: +1 587-416-0947

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Thu – 9:30 am to 1 pm, 3 pm to 6:30 pm
  • Sat – 9 am to 3 pm

Website

Signature Spinal Care’s record in correcting posture and treating injuries is remarkable. Loads of clients, including those involved in car accidents and sports or workplace mishaps, saw improvements within weeks!

Not saying they’re only for corrective care, though. You can pop by for maintenance or wellness care, as treatment plans here are well-rounded.

According to our interviewees, Dr Boston Langley, who started as a sports performance specialist in 2013, has a knack for breaking down findings and treatment steps.

Office manager Serena is also well-liked for her quick responses and efficient scheduling. What’s more, she’s said to be quite friendly, always greeting visitors with a warm smile.

Signature, however, is limited to chiropractic care. Those after other therapies might find that a tad limiting.

The 5-day schedule can be limiting as well, given the other clinics we featured follow a 6-day setup.

Pros

  • Open since 2017
  • Specialises in injuries and posture correction
  • Efficient scheduling
  • Personalized treatment plans
  • Diagnostics-driven

Cons

  • Only open for five days
  • Only provides chiropractic care

Truly Wonderful

Dr. Langley and Serena are truly wonderful. From the moment you meet them, it’s clear they don’t treat this as “just a job”. Their care feels like an extension of their genuine passion for helping people. I only wish I’d found this clinic sooner after moving to the neighborhood. I’m extremely careful about where I go and who I trust for chiropractic care, and I can confidently say this is a clinic I highly recommend.

Attentive, Comprehensive, and Skilled

Extremely good service and care! Dr. Boston is attentive, comprehensive and skilled and I have noticed significant improvement in my body since starting at his office 6 months ago. The front-of-office staff is so kind, helpful and respectful – these positive interactions truly make a difference. If you are looking for a chiro practice – definitely check this one out!

5. Symmetry Spinal Care

symmetry-spinal-care-logo

Address: 7654 156 St NW

Contact Details: +1 780-462-0447

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Fri – 9 am to 5 pm
  • Sat – 8 am to 2 pm

Website

Symmetry Spinal Care is a chiropractic clinic well past the trial-and-error stage, having opened in 2005.

What they specialize in is NUCCA care, which has been around for over 55 years. It’s a non-invasive and gentler approach that avoids forceful cracks and twists, favouring calculated and low-force corrections targeting the atlas.

Historically speaking, its effectiveness record stacks up nicely. The patients we spoke with reported long-term migraine/headache relief and reduced neck/back pain.

Symmetry’s diagnostic-based approach contributes to that success. Consults involve physical, neurological, postural, and orthopaedic exams, backed by pre- and post-treatment X-rays.

Going through all that can burn a hole in your pocket, though. This clinic isn’t a bargain.

Can’t say everyone loves the front desk either. While the reputation of doctors such as Dr Schmaus and Dr Ongaro is positive, the reception has received flak for late callbacks and radio silence.

Pros

  • Open since 2005
  • Employs the NUCCA method
  • Diagnostics-driven process
  • Doctors with decades of experience
  • Specializes in treating neck/back pain and headaches

Cons

  • History of late callbacks
  • Can be pricey

Can’t Thank Him Enough

With his skill, expertise, and knowledge, Dr. Schmaus has literally changed my life for the better. Initially, I was a bit skeptical of this type of treatment but tried it anyway to alleviate my headaches and sore hips. And more recently, major jaw pain. Incredibly, his gentle and neck-specific approach to chiropractic medicine has worked wonders! I highly recommend him! I can’t thank him enough!

– Heather, Google Review

Really Good

I feel so fortunate to have been treated at the Symmetry Spinal Care. After multiple accidents I had very restricted mobility and range of motion. The traditional chiropractic treatments were not providing any relief. Then I came to know about Symmetry Spinal Care. Within first few sessions I began to see relief – relief that lasted. I was able to do more, pain free. Dr. Jason is very knowledgeable and proficient in his work. His calm demeanor and ability to explain things in plain language, helped eliminate my worries and put me at ease. His care and understanding has improved my health and quality of life. He is really good at what he does. I would highly recommend him.
