Fans of ballet and Margaret Atwood will get the best of both worlds with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s production of The Handmaid’s Tale. For Edmonton, tickets will be available for September 22 to September 24.
It will be held at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. The production is based on Margaret Atwood’s best-selling novel, The Handmaid’s Tale.
The choreographer, Lila York, is said by critics to have outdone herself with this brilliant interpretation.
Lila York is recognized worldwide for her signature pieces Rapture and Celts. Throughout her career, she has choreographed for companies such as the Atlanta Ballet, Washington Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and Scottish Ballet, among others.
She made this adaptation in 2013 specifically for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. It was first performed at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa in 2015 on the novel’s 30th anniversary
Expect to be transported to the protagonist’s journey through Atwood’s dystopian Gilead.
The show has a total running time of 1 hour and 50 minutes. It’s composed of two acts.
Act 1 lasts 50 minutes, while Act 2 lasts 40 minutes. An intermission of 20 minutes between the two acts is to be expected.

Students and senior citizens can get discounted rates when tickets are purchased on the day of the performance. You will be asked to present proof of valid ID for both cases so you can avail of the Rush tickets.
Rush tickets are limited to one ticket per person. They are sold at the Jubilee Auditorium around one hour before the show.
Tickets are non-refundable, but they’re transferable to family and friends.
