British cuisine doesn’t always get the best reputation. Many people think of it as bland, heavy, or simply not as exciting as other cuisines.
But the truth is, when you find the right restaurant, it’s easy to appreciate how satisfying the food can be. A well-done Sunday roast or a golden-crisp fish and chips show that British cuisine, at its best, is about warmth and satisfaction.

We’ve sampled multiple dishes in various restaurants across the city to find the best British restaurants in Edmonton. Here are the ones we thought prove that this cuisine is far more inviting than the stereotypes suggest.
How much do meals at British restaurants in Edmonton cost?
Meals at British restaurants in Edmonton typically cost between $15 and $40 per person for standard dishes. For full Sunday roasts or specialty items, prices can go up to $50 or more per person.
1. The Sherlock Holmes Pub

Address: 10012 101A Ave NW
Phone: +1 (780) 426-7784
Business hours:
- Sunday to Thursday: 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM
- Friday & Saturday: 11:00 AM – 2:00 AM
I first went to the Sherlock Holmes Pub with a couple of friends before a show downtown, and it really felt like stepping into a proper British pub. The dark wood, cozy decor, and busy chatter set the mood right away.
I ordered the fish and & chips while my friend went for the shepherd’s pie, and both dishes came out hearty and flavorful.
What I liked most was how local the food actually felt. The sausage in the bangers & mash is from Old Country Meats, the bread comes from nearby bakeries, and the cheese is sourced from the Cheese Factory on Whyte.
It made the food taste fresher than I expected from a pub chain.
On top of that, they host trivia nights and live music. It’s the type of place you can plan an evening around, not just a meal.
I also noticed their efforts toward sustainability, like using compostable take-out containers and recycling their used cooking oil through proper disposal programs. Small things, but it shows they’re thinking beyond the bar.
That said, the atmosphere isn’t always ideal for every night out. When the music kicks in and the place fills up, it gets pretty loud. Kinda tough if you’re trying to have a laid-back conversation.
Tasty pub fare, great atmosphere
“Stopped in for lunch before seeing a matinee nearby. Had a delicious plate of bangers and mash, which came with buttered peas and yorkshire pudding along with the gravy. In addition I had a fantastic bread pudding with some very creamy ice cream on the top.
Loved the pub style decor and though I didn’t have a drink the pub seemed to have a myriad of local options on tap and on the menu.
I’ll definitely come back at some point!”

Flavorful dishes, friendly service
“I personally loved the food when I went a few weeks ago! Haven’t been here in years but I got the bangers and mash, and wow! I loved loved loved the sauce underneath the peas, kind of like a sweet pepper sauce, and the sausages and gravy were great too, lots of flavour! Great atmosphere and our server was friendly and drinks were well priced. Will definitely be back to this historic establishment!”

2. Three Vikings

Address: 10713 124 St NW
Phone: +1 780-249-6302
Business hours:
- Sunday: 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM
- Tuesday & Wednesday: 11:30 AM – 10:00 PM
- Thursday: 11:30 AM – 11:00 PM
- Friday & Saturday: 11:30 AM – 12:00 AM
- Monday: Closed
Walking into Three Vikings feels a little different from other pubs. It has that warm, cozy atmosphere where you could just as easily settle in for a casual pint as you could bring the family for dinner.
The mix of British and Scandinavian influences shows up right away on the menu. They have dishes like Swedish meatballs, Yorkshire pudding, and gravlax alongside pub staples.
On my first visit, I went for the fish and chips while a friend ordered the Danish meatballs. Both dishes came out filling, and it was clear they care about making things from scratch.
You can tell the difference when the sausage comes from a local butcher or the bread is made nearby. It gives the food a fresher edge.
The place also works well if you’ve got different dietary needs in your group. I noticed several vegetarian and gluten-free options, which aren’t always easy to find at pubs.
Potions are generous too, so it felt like good value for the price.
What made the visit even better was how relaxed the space felt. There’s a kid’s menu if you’ve got little ones, they’re dog-friendly, and the vibe in general is laid-back.
The only thing that bugged me was parking. It gets crowded fast, and finding a space nearby isn’t always easy.
Worth revisiting
“The food and the coffee (roasted locally) were so good, we had to come visit twice in one weekend. Had the bangers and mash, added two perfectly cooked and seasoned eggs on the side. Polished the whole thing. Tried the fish and chips on another day; potatoes here are cooked to perfection, no matter the format.”

Delicious food, friendly service
“Three Vikings is such a nice little pub with a great patio in the summer, and is a perfect spot to hit up on a game day. We got the kale caesar and the fish’n’chips and both were delicious. We were surprised how good the salad was, as kale caesars can be hit or miss, but theirs was delicious. They have a great mix of local and foreign beers, as well as a few cocktails and wine options. The waitstaff were all super friendly and great at their jobs. Overall, the experience at Three Vikings was perfect for small local pub, and was everything we hoped it would be.”

3. Winston’s Fish and Chips

Address: 10505 51 Ave NW
Phone: +1 (780) 430-7170
Business hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 11:00 AM – 8:30 PM
- Friday: 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM
- Saturday: 11:30 AM – 9:00 PM
- Sunday: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
I’ve had my fair share of fish and chips around Edmonton, but Winston’s really feels like the closest thing to a proper British chippy.
They’ve been around for over 25 years, and it shows in the way they’ve perfected their recipe. The batter is light and crispy without being greasy, and the fish itself flakes apart the way it should.
I went with the two-piece meal thinking I’d take one home, but I couldn’t stop myself from finishing both. The chips were spot on too, soft in the middle with just enough crunch on the outside — exactly how I like them.
What makes Winston’s stand out is that they don’t just stop at fish and chips. Their menu pulls straight from British comfort food with meat pies, pasties, and chowder.
The sticky toffee pudding honestly deserves its own shoutout. If you’re into classic U.K. sweets, it’s a must-order.
I also like how thoughtful they are with dietary needs. You can get fish and chips or onion rings gluten-free, and they even use a separate fryer in some cases.
Plus, their HMS Winston’s food truck brings that British pub flavor to local events, which is a fun touch.
If there’s one drawback, it’s the price. It’s a little higher than your average chippy.
Excellent food, helpful service
“Food is excellent. Nicely seasoned fish with a light batter. Many options for fish. We tried the cod and halibut. Good portion sizes. Fries were nice and crispy including the onion rings. Something about the spices in the onion bahji, I would not get it again. Sticky toffee pleasant. Would have liked to have more British imports for drinks vs American. Place is neatly decorated with London-inspired artwork. It was a little drafty inside. Server had nice recommendations. They also have a “take-and-bake” freezer section to try some of their pies and pasties at home.”

Consistently excellent food, generous portions
“Clearly the best fish&chips restaurants in YEG. After dining here a bunch of times, I must say not only do they make the most excellent fish&chips, the quality of the food is always consistent.
– Fish: No matter what kind of fish it is, they cook it to perfection every time, with a light and crispy batter that adds a satisfying crunch to every bite. The fish is incredibly juicy and flaky, and the portion size is very generous.
– Chips: Equally delightful, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
– Service: The lovely staff at Winston’s are always attentive and friendly throughout my visit. Food is usually served promptly, and the staff ensure that I have everything I need to enjoy the meal.”

4. Lawson’s Fish & Chips

Address: 10183 186 St NW
Phone: +1 (780) 249-6133
Business hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 11:30 AM – 8:00 PM
- Friday: 11:30 AM – 9:00 PM
- Saturday: 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- Sunday: Closed
I’ve been coming to Lawson’s Fish & Chips for a while now, and it’s easy to see why people call it a “proper chippy”
Everything here leans fully into its British roots, from the menu to the small details that make it feel authentic. You’ll find cod, haddock, battered sausage, and even traditional mushy peas—the kind of classics you’d expect at a U.K. chippy.
Their battered haddock is as crisp and flaky as the cod, and the meat pies and fish cakes are surprisingly hearty.
The chips are always fresh, cut from local potatoes, and the mushy peas are creamy and perfectly seasoned. Every dish manages to feel comforting without being heavy, which is exactly what you want from a proper chippy.
What impressed me even more is how Lawson balances tradition with care for its customers. Their decades of experience show in the consistent quality of both the food and the attention to dietary needs.
The only drawback is the seating. Space is limited, so if you visit during a busy stretch, be ready to take your meal to go.
Friendly service, quirky atmosphere
“This place is amazing but one down fall is the weird hours highly recommend checking their hours before driving here. With that being said the service is very good top notch service fast and friendly. You better not be in a hurry as they are a very busy restaurant but so worth the wait. I truly enjoyed the the Haddock Reg fish n chips. And the homemade onions… Although wish they came in a smaller size couldn’t finish them. The coleslaw is a vinaigrette style was so hoping for. Creamy Slaw… Mmm. But all in all this place is great the atmosphere is cool with tons of different things to look at. And it continues into the washrooms too…
I highly recommend this place if your a fish n chips connoisseur like myself.”

Generous portion, charming place
“I tried this place for take away this evening for dinner. This place is extremely busy but the line moved quick. At the guidance of the lady at the til I ordered the sharing for 2 with an extra piece for 2 adults and a child. It was more than enough food. The fish was flaky and flavorful. The shrimp and creamy garlic sauce were amazing. The chips were hand cut and crispy. The mushy peas were the best I’ve had outside England. I highly recommend. I also really enjoyed the decor and all the English memorabilia.”

5. Cork & Barley

Address: 4274 137 Avenue NW
Phone: +1 (780) 249‑2675
Business hours:
- Monday: Closed
- Tuesday: 11:30 AM – 9:00 PM
- Wednesday to Friday: 11:30 AM – 11:00 PM
- Saturday: 9:30 AM – 11:00 PM
- Sunday: 9:30 AM – 9:00 PM
Cork & Barley has become one of my go-to spots when I’m craving classic British comfort food with a modern twist.
The menu is packed with British favorites—bangers & mash, pot roast on Yorkshire pudding, and even Stuffed Mini Yorkies. Every bite makes you feel like you’re enjoying a proper pub meal back in Britain.
I’ve spent a few evenings here, and one thing that stands out is the drink selection. They’ve got a solid range of craft beers, wines, and cocktails.
Their Old Fashioned and Caesar are particular highlights, and it’s easy to see why friends linger over drinks even after finishing their meals.
The atmosphere adds to the experience. Live music or themed nights turn dinner into a lively outing, and the energy makes it a great spot for catching up with friends.
They also offer catering and private event services, which seems like a natural fit given the space and vibe.
If you’re hoping for a family-friendly night out, this isn’t the spot. The venue only allows guests 18 and over.
Excellent food, great service
“We didn’t know what to expect when we arrived at Cork & Barley. The atmosphere was great: a guy singing and playing guitar—all good, well-known songs that you could hum/ tap along to, not too loud so that you can’t have a conversation but loud enough to enjoy. The service was great. Our server answered all of our questions when we had them and was very conversational, which is one thing a lot of pubs lack. If I wanted the coldness of a restaurant, I would have gone to one. The food was excellent. I had the bangers and mash and my husband had the curry poutine (it might be called something else?) For dessert, we had the cookies and creme cheese cake (again, I may be calling this by the wrong name) and my husband had the apple crumble. We got to talking about stickie toffee pudding, and our server brought us out a sample of theirs. It was divine. We will be returning and will recommend Cork and Barley as the occasion arises 🙂 Thank you for a nice evening”

Friendly, accommodating service
“This in my opinion is the best place in Edmonton for a burger and beer. If you go there make sure to try the Brigade Burger. You will not be disappointed. The onion tanglers and the sauce really bring this burger together to give you a to die for experience! The fries and gravy are delicous as well. And they make a really great Caesar.
I go here about once a month.
The staff are very friendly and accomodating. Go see for yourself!
Edit: I tried the Bangers and Mash today. It was a fantastic dish. You get three large sausages with a black peppered taste to them, mashed poataoes and peas in a nice gravy. Definitely try this dish.”
