I’ve been customer at Long & McQuade for decades now, and I’ve watched it evolve as a music store in the community. Granted it may have been partly responsible for the closing of some other stores, it has often purchased the other stores assets, and that seems fair pool. It is in a near monopoly position now, as small chains and independents disappear, but it remains a good store, and I have been satisfied with the many purchases I have made there. The staff is it’s most valuable asset, and they seem to stick around for quite a while, so it must be a reasonable place to work. The new Highlands store is a flagship store so it has anything that any other L&M store has. They offer lessons, and do repairs, and have generally good policies. I’ll go back (many more times).

I am associated with the Edmonton ukulele Circle and other circles in the Edmonton and surrounding area. This store has helped with many purchases of stringed instruments particularly ukuleles and guitars. They are terrific. Their knowledgable staff, choice of instruments, service and repair professionals are the very best.Their prices are comparable and in some cases better than bigger stores. They support local music events. Edmonton is very fortunate to have this locally owned and operated store

We stroll over to Listen pretty regularly since we moved to the neighborhood and always come home with a nice little musical treat. We’ve ordered a few albums we couldn’t find elsewhere, and they also have these gorgeous hand-made wooden record boxes with beautiful joints you can buy (and stain yourself if you please,) that look much better than milk crates. Today we bought a Rega Planar 2 turntable and preamp, and Kris balanced the tone arm for us with his scale, which made it pretty much plug and play. The store has an eclectic selection and friendly staff.

Amazing friendly owner and one of the only REGA Brio dealers in Edmonton.
I needed a good amp to compliment my ELAC towers and Fluance table. Kris was accommodating and open to every question I had. He stayed open late to let me drop in after work and had music queued up that was relevant to my interests.
What’s more important, his after purchase customer service has been top notch. My Brio had an issue with its firmware and Kris worked with REGA an me to get it sorted no questions asked.
This is a great local shop and is worth your time and patronage.

Personal anecdote: I recently bought the new caribou album and was so excited to get it home on my turntable to vibe out but when the needle dropped it became immediately apparent that this particular platter at some point had been poorly handled, idk, but it was totally unlistenable full of clicks and pops so I brought it back and they exchanged it for a new copy of the same album which I am now enjoying at home with a beer and a joint totally blissed out. Great staff, great selections, great location.
