Costs and Doctors’ Fees for Cardiologists in Edmonton
An individual need not have an existing condition in order to schedule a consultation with a cardiologist. As such, cardiovascular health should be a primary concern to everyone.
With that said, health care providers will ensure that consultations and the necessary diagnostic and laboratory tests are fully covered.
The province of Alberta provides coverage for such services through the AHCIP, or the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan. Residents of Alberta must present the health care card provided in order to access these services.
If not already registered, you may do so in order to gain access to a lot of health services. Once registered, you will be mailed your own health care card.
Consultations and the diagnostic tests required by the cardiologist such as ECGs, stress tests, echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms are all covered. Note that there must be a referral from the physician in order for the request to be processed.
If not registered to AHCIP, you may check with secondary health care providers to determine which procedures and tests are covered.

As a doctor since 1981, Dr. Dylan Taylor specializes in adult congenital and structural heart diseases. Currently, he is the Facility Medical Director of the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.
Dr. Taylor received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Alberta in 1981, and a Fellowship in Echocardiography at the University of Alberta and University of Ottawa in 1991.
Aside from being an expert in his field trusted by both patients and colleagues, he also has extensive experience in administrative appointments in various hospitals. These include becoming Director of the Cardiology Residency Program between 1991 to 2003, and as Diagnostic Section Leader of the Cardiac Sciences Program from 1995 to 2009.
To widen his skills and knowledge even more, he conducts clinical research as well. His topics include coronary artery disease regression, and effects of exercise training on cardiovascular function in health and disease outcomes, to name a few.
From this, we can see that he seems to be truly committed to discovering more ways to enhance the lives of his patients. Continued research is also a plus for doctors, as it widens the pool of data from which they draw when producing diagnoses and treatments.
His patients have remarked on how calm he is as a doctor during his consultations, on top of him being such a caring cardiologist. One patient even mentioned how easy it had been for them to accept their newly diagnosed condition because of how they had been treated by Dr. Taylor.
Because a lot of his patients have mentioned this quality of his, it’s easy to see why he has long-time patients of several years, one even lasting more than 20 years.

Patient Testimonials
Had a better way
“In 2005 he closed my heart murmur with a titanium plug going through my main artery. I had my pre-op for open heart already booked in Calgary when doctor Taylor told me he had a better way. I had been told that if it wasn’t fixed I would need a heart and lung transplant by the age of 45. He fixed me and at the age of 43, I am enjoying my now 20 year old daughter. He is a true blessing.”
Knowledgeable, approachable
“Dr Taylor performed a PFO closure for my husband in October 2018. Found him to be very knowledgeable, approachable and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.”

Children also suffer from various cardiovascular health issues, so we found a cardiologist who specializes in younger patients: Dr. Ian Adatia, who has a heart clinic for children.
He obtained his bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery in the United Kingdom in 1980. He also holds a Certificate of Special Competence in cardiology, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians Canada in Pediatrics, just like the adult cardiologists in our list.
With these under his belt, we definitely see why so many parents recommended him to us in our search. Many told us that kids will be given the right care and attention in his hands.
Incidentally, he’s an expert in pediatric cardiac stress testing and transesophageal echocardiography. Hence, if your child needs attention related to those, he’s probably among the first doctors to consider.
It’s also worth noting that parents of his patients have remarked on how comfortable their children were under his care. More than anything, it’s important for a pediatric cardiologist to be calm in dealing with young patients, so this is another reason we chose him for the list.

Patient Testimonials
Always received excellent care
“Another long term patient of Dr. Tymchuk. He is an excellent doctor and I’m very lucky to have him as my cardiologist as I live in the NWT. I’ve been his patient for 12yrs and I have always received excellent care.”
Helped understand heart issues
“Dr. Tymchak is a great Cardiologist. He has helped me understand my heart health issues and through consultation with his colleagues in Edmonton, prevented me from having heart surgery that another Dr and Surgeon recommended, which likely would have done me more harm than good (possibly even caused my death). He is monitoring me closely and I trust him totally. Once he explained his position and findings to the other Dr. and surgeon they agreed with his diagnosis totally.”
