Anytime Fitness is a familiar name amongst gym enthusiasts and is well-known for its 24/7 gym services. Initially catering to the people’s busy work-life schedules, this club has expanded its services and amenities to accommodate just about every workout need.
On average, a membership at Anytime Fitness in Canada will average around $49 per month. However, your total membership fees will vary because each club and location has different fees, benefits, and services.
Perhaps the only downside to Anytime Fitness is finding the club with the best rates and amenities. This will only be made privy to you after subscribing to a 7-day trial or speaking to in-house staff.
Although rates may vary for each club, the memberships offered usually range from 6, 12, and 18-month contracts. Once you become a member, you’ll receive a special key fob which is an exclusive way to access the gym.
What we like about Anytime Fitness is that as long as you have your key fob, your membership is carried over to another club both locally and internationally. All you have to do is let your original club know in advance that you’re going to be using another gym.
With a membership, you’ll have access to personal training with a coach and team workouts. You’ll also be able to directly connect with your coach, coordinate bookings of your sessions, and reserve your gym time through their new mobile app.
Pros
- Open 24/7
- Free 7-day trial membership pass
- Personalized coaching via Anytime Fitness App
- Key fob gives you universal access to any branch
Cons
- Policies, memberships, and services vary per club
- Fees and amenities depend on owner of the gym

Evolve Strength, as the name implies, is focused on strength development and training, so don’t be surprised to find powerlifters and Olympic athletes at the gym. However, what makes them unique is that they offer nutritionists, dietitians, and therapists.
Each branch will vary in the trainers and experts they have on hand, but if you sign up for a membership, you can have access to any of their locations anyway. The Edmonton South club offers the most physicians on hand with the special availability of a kinesiologist.
If you’ve suffered an injury and need rehabilitation or would like to ensure you don’t injure yourself again in the future, Evolve Strength offers professionals that can guide you towards recovery as well.
On that note, the physicians and health professionals at the clubs are independent tenants renting spaces in Evolve Strength’s facilities and are not employees of the gym. The company leases out spaces to budding entrepreneurs and is open to virtually anybody.
You don’t have to sign a contract to have access to Evolve Strength, but doing so grants you access to all their branches in both Edmonton and Calgary. A one-year contract at the club only costs $27.99 bi-weekly compared to the contractless membership at $29.99 bi-weekly.

“What an amazing facility that we have access to. The staff, from the top down, are the best. They keep the gym clean and the environment is second to none. The equipment is top notch and you cannot beat the space. World class facility right here”
Shaun Botin, another member, adds:
“Best in Edmonton by far. Great location, free parking downtown and equipment is in great condition. A ton of racks, platforms and benches, I think the only time I’ve waited for any of those was a Friday at peak time.”

The SNAP Fitness branch in Edmonton South is one of the biggest facilities in Canada. It has two floors with a dedicated space for cardio equipment and another for functional fitness and weights.
The benefits of membership here include having access to the gym any time of the day, but there are specific staffed hours if you need to have a trainer present. Regardless of whether your focus is on weight loss, strength training, or muscle building, SNAP Fitness has what you need.
One of their unique fitness-based approaches is a focus on the MYZONE heart rate monitoring, which involves wearing a piece of tech to watch your heart rate. This members-only service helps you keep your fitness on track by basing it on your heart’s health, and not on the number of reps or weights that you lift.
You can pair their customized MYFIT HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) program with the MYZONE for maximum results, allowing you to work out smarter and not harder. These exclusive members-only regimens target your functional fitness, cardio, and strength.
Another unique benefit of joining SNAP Fitness is access to a vast range of oral supplements on-site, such as protein powders and weight loss supplements, making it convenient for you to get your nutritional requirements for the day.
Unfortunately, SNAP Fitness doesn’t post their membership rates online, and will only discuss the rates with you at their facility. However, signing up has immediate perks such as getting half off on your enrollment fee and one free training session.
Pros
- Has locations worldwide
- MyZone Heart Monitor workouts
- Exclusive HIIT programs for members
Cons
- Gyms are independently owned and have own pricing
- Only one branch in Edmonton
- Not many special amenities for members

GoodLife Fitness has been operating since 1979 and began as a way for the founder David “Patch” Evans to rehabilitate after a motorcycle accident. With hard work and perseverance, he now has 200 locations worldwide and was recently inducted to the Canadian Business Hall of Fame in 2020.
If you want to be a member at GoodLife Fitness, you can sign up for their Essential Membership at $29.99 bi-weekly which includes full access to their strength and cardio equipment. While you’ll also receive special perks, this option only grants you access to the specific location that you signed up in.
On the other hand, their Ultimate Membership gives you full access to all GoodLife Fitness clubs worldwide and only costs $36.99 bi-weekly. It also includes unlimited use of the on-site squash court, swimming pool, mind den facilities, and participation in all group fitness sessions.
Before you take a pen and sign that contract, take note that GoodLife Fitness charges a one-time joining fee of $99.99 for new members. Moreover, using their on-site tanning facilities still requires an additional fee for members, which seems like it should’ve just been included in the membership.
Despite this, being a part of GoodLife Fitness means you can take advantage of their unique trainer-certified 60-minute workout called REGYMEN. This specially crafted High-Intensity Interval Training program focuses on developing your core strength.
What we like about GoodLife Fitness is the availability of over 100 women’s-only clubs that are supervised by female coaches. This support group includes programs with yoga, Pilates, Zumba, and BODYPUMP intended to make women feel comfortable working out amongst their peers.
Lastly, a membership at this gym also entitles you to use their GoodLife mobile app and grants access to multiple rewards from collaborating corporate partners. These include discounts or freebies from restaurants, banks, car rental services, airlines, clothing, hotels, and more.
Pros
- Offers women-only clubs and classes
- Stand-out amenities such as a squash court and swimming pool
- Minimum age is 12 years old but with guardian
Cons
- Use of tanning rooms not included in membership
- Not all clubs are open 24/7
Customer Reviews
Let’s take a look at what their clients have to say:
One way to tell a club is worth joining is if it has long-time loyal members. Christine McGrath is one such client, as she shares:
“I’ve been a member of GoodLife for 20 years…Great facility…Very professional and knowledgeable.”
Jeremy, another GoodLife Member, adds his thoughts:
“A great gym overall–staff are always friendly–& the equipment is organized well. No deadlift platforms though so it can get loud when you lift.”
5. F.R.E.E. Fitness

SERVICES & AMENITIES | Individual Fitness, Motivation Fitness, Online Training, Physiotherapy, Massage Therapy. Boxing and Kicking, Nutrition, Body Composition Assessment, and Yoga |
WEBSITE | https://freefitnessinc.com/ |
ADDRESS | F.R.E.E. Fitness Studio 11507 120 Street NW Edmonton, AB T5G 2Y4 |

OPERATING HOURS | Monday – Friday: 6am to 8pm Saturday: 8am – 2pm Sunday: 10am – 2pm |
At F.R.E.E. Fitness, our journey towards better health and fitness began with high hopes, but alas, the reality left much to be desired.
When it comes to services, F.R.E.E. Fitness falls short of our expectations.
The promised personalized training plans felt more generic than a canned elevator pitch. Our sessions often left us questioning whether we were getting the expert guidance we signed up for.
Convenience, or rather the lack thereof, proved to be a significant stumbling block.
The gym’s limited operating hours clashed with our busy schedules, forcing us to rearrange our lives around their timetable. It’s a pity our commitment to fitness couldn’t be met with reciprocal flexibility.
As for reputation, F.R.E.E. Fitness has some work to do. Despite their promises of a stellar track record, our experiences and conversations with other members revealed a surprising number of complaints.
Issues ranging from equipment maintenance to staff responsiveness painted a less-than-flattering picture of the company’s standing.
F.R.E.E. Fitness may sound affordable, but those hidden fees and unexpected charges quickly put a dent in our wallets.
The initial enticing price quickly inflated into a much heftier investment, leaving us feeling a bit duped.
Sadly, they don’t offer discounts at the present. We advise checking their website for other affordable deals.
Pros
- Affordable pricing
- Varied workout equipment
- Friendly staff
- Clean facilities
Cons
- No promos at the present
Customer Reviews
“F.R.E.E. Fitness has been a game-changer for me. The affordability allowed me to maintain my fitness routine without breaking the bank. The staff is incredibly helpful and always ready to assist, creating a welcoming atmosphere. I’ve seen real progress in my fitness journey, thanks to the varied equipment they offer. Highly recommend!”

If you’re living in Alberta, then Gymvmt is the club for you. This gym was first started in the province and retains its base of operations there up to this day.
They are known for taking a different and modern approach towards the fitness experience such as a unique membership plan called Tru Ride where you exercise with a group to the beats of music and glimmer of neon lights.
Gymvmt’s modern facilities welcome you to drop in for single sessions, which gives you a chance to essentially take a hands-on tour of the facility before you commit. Once you decide to opt-in, they have over 20 different membership plans ranging from a basic 12-month Single Gym Plan for $19.95 bi-weekly to an open-ended Executive MTM for $55.95 every two weeks.
However, the multitude of membership plans and classes is also the downside to Gymvmt. With so many options to choose from, it can easily overwhelm any potential member to decide which plan is best for them.
But once you pick your membership, you’ll have access to common services offered across all branches such as personal training, group fitness, group cycles, towel service, toga, infrared saunas, and Little MVRS child-minding service.
We also like that this gym offers women-only training programs and classes under the Her Gymvmt moniker. In these special facilities, they offer Zumba, Hatha Yoga, meditation, core strength training, and lower body training.
Pros
- Wide array of membership plans to choose from
- Her Gymvmt focuses on services for women
- Multiple branches and locations in Edmonton
Cons
- City Centre location has shorter operating hours
- Major differences in amenities between locations
