5 Best Interlocking Paver Contractors in Edmonton for Driveways & Patios

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Proper base prep - A good installer digs deep, at least 8 to 12 inches below the final grade for driveways, with compacted road crush in layers. If the base isn’t right, the pavers will heave after the first cold snap.

Warranty that actually covers heaving/settling - We looked for at least a 2 to 5 year workmanship warranty that includes frost heave corrections, not just manufacturing defects. The best companies will come back, lift, re-level, and relay stones if needed.

Smart water/drainage planning - Edmonton clay soil holds water, so grading is critical. I want installers who slope surfaces away from the house and integrate drains if required.

Real design capability (not just labour) - Great companies offer layout ideas, border accents, colour mixes, and add-ons like walkways, steps, and firepits. If they can only lay squares in straight lines, we kept looking.

I love a good home makeover, but let’s face it: some jobs don’t require paying the full price of renovation contractors. Edmonton driveways are one of them. Between chinooks and soil that shifts like it’s trying to escape winter, concrete here cracks faster than Old Strathcona’s sidewalks.

That’s why I went hunting for real pros who live and breathe paving stones, and who understand that a proper interlocking paver install in Edmonton starts below the surface. Here, we need a rock-solid base that won’t heave the first time we hit temperatures below 25°C.

In Edmonton, it’s not if concrete fails, it’s when. A well-laid paver system flexes, settles, and shrugs off the freeze-thaw cycle like a seasoned local. Here are some of the companies that understand this and know how to work around it.

How much does an interlocking paver cost in Edmonton?

In Edmonton, interlocking pavers or paving stones typically cost CAD $24 to $45 per sq ft installed for driveways. Patios typically cost CAD $30 to $55 per square foot, especially if you add curves, borders, or fire pit cuts.

Maintenance stays light: refresh polymeric sand every few years to keep joints tight and weeds out. Sealing is optional, but it helps preserve colour and protects against oil drips in the driveway.

I wanted simple but elegant Holland paving stones for my Sherwood Park driveway, not a full HGTV makeover. Whyte Ave Landscape Supplies was the first crew that didn’t try to upsell me into fountains and koi ponds.

They specialize in driveway replacements and paving stone patios, with a reputation for building deep bases that actually stand up to Edmonton clay. You can tell they’ve seen enough freeze-thaw carnage to take excavation seriously.

Their crews can handle interlocking driveway installs, firepit patios, and even retaining walls and grading when your yard slopes like a ski run. It’s not a big team, but you’re hiring hardscaping specialists who know their craft.

The best part, for me, was how matter-of-fact they were. It was pick your paver, show where the water goes, and let them prep and build. They also install Techo-Bloc, so colours and shapes don’t top out at grey brick or red brick.

That said, they book out quickly once spring hits, so don’t wait until your driveway turns into gravel mud before making an appointment. And if you want 3D renderings or a backyard masterplan, you may need a separate designer.

Pros

  • Deep-base prep designed for Edmonton soil and climate
  • Hardscape specialists
  • Full-service options beyond driveways
  • Good local product access

Cons

  • Limited design/3D planning
  • Peak season wait times
  • Not the cheapest option

The staff were very knowledgeable about different materials

We recently revamped our yard and got all our supplies from the store. The staff were very knowledgeable about different materials and guided us super well for our project. Super friendly and organized! The delivery man went out of the way to make sure our materials were in the right spot and on time. Highly recommend this company for your landscaping project!

Provides the best customer service in the business

The best landscape supplier in the city, and I’ve worked with them all – so that’s saying a lot. They are a family-run business that provides the best customer service in the business, the best prices, and amazing advice. Every staff member I’ve dealt with there was friendly and very helpful – from the staff at the order desk to the yard staff shovelling our product! Stop by and experience for yourself, and you will be converted.

My parents finally gave up on their 1990s exposed-aggregate driveway, which had more cracks than a Devo song. Peter’s Paving Stones came highly recommended by their neighbours as the kind of crew ideal for their issues (both mobility and curb appeal).

They’ve become known for driveway replacements and paving stone patios, especially in older suburbs where the soil shifts for fun. They’re not a fancy design house (which would have intimidated Mom and Dad) but are dependable when it comes to free-thaw mood swings solutions.

Their bread and butter is interlocking driveway installations, but they can also build paving stone patios, firepits, and even retaining walls and grading. My parents were happy to note that they can go beyond beige and slightly darker versions of it for their hardscape.

The crew literally dug deep to remove older concrete and rebuild a base that looked like it could support a small arena. The result was a driveway that drains properly and looks sharp without screaming “new money.”

However, if you want an elaborate designer-led backyard vision board, you’ll need a separate landscape planner. Older-home redos are also their busiest jobs in spring, so you’ll need to book early.

Pros

  • Specialists in older-home tear-outs
  • Laser-level grading
  • Strong workmanship emphasis
  • Excellent brick pattern options

Cons

  • No bundled landscaping extras
  • Not ideal for DIY assist clients

None of the paving stones has moved or cracked in over 13 years

This is the 3rd project for our home that we have used Peter for. The first project was our driveway and sidewalk. He did an incredible job, and it only took his team 2 and a half days! His work is exceptional, the prep work is done to perfection, and Peter knows how to take your ideas and create a beautiful project. The craftsmanship is amazing; none of the paving stones have moved or cracked in over 13 years. Our most recent project was our backyard gardens. Peter and his team installed a beautiful foot path of paving stones that borders our gardens and merges to form a large path and patio to the garden shed. They graded the yard, brought in rock and topsoil for the gardens and landscaping, and it was all done in a day and a half! His crew are very respectful, and everything is left spotless. I highly recommend Peter’s paving Stones for any paving project to improve your home.

He even had some stones that were no longer available

Peter and his crew did a great job in fixing our driveway, front steps, patio and back steps, all of which had sunk over the years. He even had some stones that were no longer available. Peter’s quote was fair, his crew was there when they said they would be, he supervised at all times, and the job took exactly how long he said it would. They even put our patio furniture back when the job was done. We would highly recommend this excellent team.

My best buddy finally finished his new build in southwest Edmonton, but his yard still looked like lunar gravel. The Whitemud Landscape Center was the first outfit that didn’t blink when he asked for natural stone pavers instead of standard contractor concrete.

The team shines when you’ve got bare dirt and need to turn it into something livable, fast. They’re used to working with houses that came from a builder with nothing but rough grade, from driveways and patios to side pads.

Instead of pitching landscape “visions” to my pal, they sent in crews who measured twice, dug deep, and laid stone like pros. Interlocking pavers, natural stone firepits, retaining walls, and proper water management all sit firmly in their wheelhouse.

My friend was really impressed with how calmly they navigate Edmonton’s ever-shifting clay. There was no panic or hand-waving; just a proper base so his new interlocking pavers don’t heave when the temperature jumps 30 degrees.

Finally, his yard looks moved into, not like a showhome missing its backyard. The downside? If your yard needs full planting and lighting plans, you’ll need to hire a separate landscape designer.

Pros

  • Specializes in new builds
  • Experts with natural materials
  • Efficient crew coordination
  • Smooth drainage execution

Cons

  • Design guidance leans more practical, not artsy
  • Natural stone options can increase cost
  • Hardscapes only

The results exceeded my expectations

I highly recommend this Whitemud Landscape Centre! They’re not only skilled and professional, but also incredibly friendly, accommodating and helpful. They assisted with garden design and some beautiful stonework, and the results exceeded my expectations. They took the time to listen, offered helpful suggestions every step of the way, and delivered exactly what they promised. It’s clear they genuinely care about their work and their customers. I’ll definitely be using them again in the future for anything I require and will recommend them to friends and family.

My neighbour finally agreed with me that she needed interlocking pavers after tripping on her own side yard stones for the third time this month. Thankfully, OutdoorSpace can rebuild things from the base up so she won’t have to stub her toe again.

What sold my neighbour was their lift-fix-and-relay confidence if anything settles in a few winters. It was refreshing for her to hear a company say, “We’ll come back,” instead of pretending the frost line doesn’t exist.

They’re skilled at driveway replacements and proper paver patios, especially in mature neighbourhoods like ours, where the ground shifts like a tired accordion. They aren’t a giant firm but more focused on hardscaping, where clay is unforgivable.

Their services include interlocking driveway installs, patio and firepit builds, and retaining walls with solid drainage and grading. She liked their service so much, she’s thinking of upgrading the rest of her outdoors with the team!

Do note that OutdoorSpace isn’t the cheapest if you’re hunting for a bare-minimum fix.

Pros

  • Great at rescue jobs
  • Highly attentive site prep
  • Strong border and edging execution
  • Clean, tidy work habits

Cons

  • Not ideal for ultra-rushed timelines
  • No bundled lawn care

We have received a lot of compliments on our landscaping

OutdoorSpace Inc. was a pleasure to work with. They provided us with a nice detail hand drawing of their proposal and worked with us to achieve an affordable solution to a relatively maintenance-free yard. Our backyard is exposed to public viewing, and we have received a lot of compliments on our landscaping. They showed up when they said they would and had a hard-working crew that was well-behaved and polite. Whenever it was financially feasible, they would go that extra mile to ensure we were happy with the work and the end product. I apologize if our photos aren’t the best quality and angles, but the results are spectacular. I would highly recommend them to friends.

They were very professional and friendly

Tony really grasped my vision for this space. The quality of the workmanship was excellent. They were very professional and friendly. Jim was always checking with me to make sure what they were doing or about to do was what I wanted. They came in and removed the earth and debris, and completed the job in 2.5 days. Then cleaned up thoroughly. The only proof that they had been here was the beautiful transformation of the space.

A colleague of mine needed a paver crew with miles of interlocking paver experience for her cafe’s tiny patio expansion. Old World Paving Stones Ltd was the only one she found that has been laying brick since most of us were still trading hockey cards.

They do interlocking driveway installations, tidy cafe-style patios, plus retaining walls and grading where the lot dips. They come highly recommended for those wanting craftsmanship over flash.

They aren’t a design house but hardscape veterans (over 30 years!) who’ve already seen every frost-heave trick Edmonton can throw at them. For a cafe owner, having an al fresco patio with stable paving stones is a must to get returning customers.

Her new patio feels timeless, not trendy. It’s ideal for a business that plans to stick around, thanks to the no-rushing, no-cutting steady work from the team.

That said, their schedule fills fast because word-of-mouth keeps them busy. And if you’re chasing modern landscape lighting, plant walls, or full-yard redesigns, you’ll need a more expansive firm alongside them.

Pros

  • Longevity in the trade
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experienced with classic patterns

Cons

  • Traditional style bias
  • Premium pricing reflects decades of experience
  • Lead times can stretch

We still cannot believe how good the grade is

Finding and working with Old World Paving Stones Ltd was one of the best things to happen to us this summer. We needed a massive re-grading in our backyard with the existing pavers and some new ones. They provided a reasonable quote, were on site every day at 7:30 am ready to work, were polite, respectful, cooperative, communicative, and completed the project in a week. They even came in at 7:30 am on a Saturday to make sure it was perfect. Then they inspected it one last time and still made some additional tweaks. We still cannot believe how good the grade is and how good the backyard looks. We highly recommend these fine folks and suggest you book them now before they get too busy! Thank you, Old World Paving Stones, for finding time for us in your packed schedule, and we wish you all success.

A solid, stable work of art

The team at Old World Paving transformed a cracked, heaving and crooked front entry sidewalk into a solid, stable work of art that will likely last longer than the house itself. The entire crew was meticulous and professional. Well done!
