We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Do you need a place to take care of your pet while you work or go on a holiday? If you do, then you’ll definitely want to read this list we’ve put together.

After searching around, we found the top places that can keep an eye on your pets while you’re away. We based our list on their services, facilities, rates, and feedback from their customers.

Are you ready? Then let’s take a look at the best kennels in Edmonton.

How Much Do Kennels Cost in Edmonton?

Generally, pet owners going to work, taking a vacation or a business trip leave their pets behind in kennels or pet daycare. Others, however, simply want a place for their pets to socialize, receive training, or be groomed.

Most kennels’ services are for dogs, but some establishments accept cats and other pets as well. Daycare essentially involves dropping your pet off in the morning and picking them up after a few hours, while boarding is when your pet spends the night or a few days at the facility.

Daycare will commonly charge by the hour while boarding fees will bill you per night of stay. Other services offered include grooming such as teeth cleaning or a full bath with brushing and blow-drying.

To summarize, we’ve compiled the most common kennel or daycare services for your pets along with their corresponding rates in the table below.

These sections are Little Tikes (under 30lbs), Pee Wee (smaller and older pets), Rowdy Rascals (for extremely playful pets), Mellow Mutts (for the pacifists), and the Junk Yard (outdoor area).

If your pet is at least 10 weeks of age with at least 2 sets of the distemper combo vaccines administered, they’re welcome to Canine Kingdom. However, before you rush in to enroll your pet, make sure to read this daycare’s lengthy policies and strict rules.

Canine Kingdom also offers boarding with a premium option for softer beddings, extra chew toys, and a special Departure Bath or full-service grooming on their last day. You’ll have to supply your dog’s food during a sleepover, but the staff can buy extra if it runs out.

However, make sure you pick up your pet within operating hours, or else you’ll be charged $5 for every 15 minutes that you’re late. Also, if you don’t pick them up before 8 pm, you’ll have to pay a boarding fee on top of other expenses.

Customer Reviews

Canine Kingdom understands the anxiety you may feel when leaving your pet under somebody’s else’s care. They try to make it as comfortable as possible by regularly posting photos online.

Catherine Leonard, a regular client, shares her thoughts:

“They have taken great care of our puppy for daycare and for sleepovers. They were so accommodating and helpful when our pup needed a vet visit (unrelated to his stay there) while I was working and had him booked in for a sleepover. He’s excited to go there and exhausted from playing when he comes home. I trust that he’s well taken care of while at Canine Kingdom and the daily photos are a nice touch too!”

Heather Reid also appreciates the personalized care and online pictures, as she writes:

“We have been taking our boy here for about 4 months once a week and he LOVES it. When I am taking him and ask him if he is excited for daycare, he cries and wanders around until we leave, just so excited to see his friends. The staff are all super friendly, know his name, know my name, easy communication (text, pet portal, phone, email) and overall just the best service. I brought in pupcakes for my boys birthday and they threw him a little party. They are always are taking and posting photos so you feel a bit included in their day. My pup is always tired when he gets home which is the best.”

In this 12,000 square foot facility, your dog will have more than enough space to run around in Dog House Daycare, which includes a playground and a pool during the summer. The staff here are expertly trained with the Alberta Force Free Alliance method which uses positive reinforcement and science-based handling systems.

However, before your pet can enroll, they’ll be assessed to see if they’ll be a good fit in the center, which takes only about 20-30 minutes. Once your pup passes, they’ll have a chance to socialize with other dogs, enjoy the facilities and be eligible for boarding.

Your dog also needs to be up to date on their vaccinations and be neutered/spayed if they’re older than seven months. If you’ve already done so, you’ll need to provide documentation as proof that these policies have been complied with.

If you’re bringing your pup in for a sleepover, the staff will make sure their sleeping arrangements are what your pets are accustomed to. They’ll either sleep in a crate, open space, or one of the staff can take your pet to their home to ensure that they’re comfortable and happy.

The classes at Dog House are its highlight feature, with packages that offer 5 sessions at 1 hour per week. From the basics of leash skills, greeting skills, and how to act when in a community there’s plenty of opportunities for your pet to learn here.

Moreover, if your puppy is between 2-12 months, Dog House has a range of classes to offer for the tiny tots, such as socialization skills, puzzles, and brain teasers.

If your dog isn’t very social but you want to sign up for basic training, Dog House offers consultations right in the comfort of your home. You can choose from their existing classes and even set the schedule you prefer!

  • Options for training classes in your home
  • Comprehensive grooming packages

Cons

  • No daycare on Sunday
  • Does not segregate dogs by size
  • Charges penalty fees for late pick-up

Customer Reviews

The Dog House Daycare’s classes have helped many dog owners guide their pets to become more well-mannered. Josie Baker shares her experience as she says:

“Our puppy took Puppy Kindergarten here and we learned so much about training, how to create a well adjusted and well socialized dog, about how to keep your dog healthy, etc. The class went far above just training them and helped us to know how to have a well rounded dog once our puppy grows up. The instructor is extremely knowledgeable and was always able to answer any questions we had. We will definitely be taking more classes here!”

Henrik Torvonen, a long-time customer, regularly brings his dogs to Dog House Daycare. He writes:

“We’ve been taking our one dog to The Dog House for nearly 3 years and our second for 6 months. Although it may seem hyperbolic, the work they’ve done with the two of them, training, socialization, etc. has been life changing. Everything is easier with how well behaved they are both at home and with others (people and dogs). We couldn’t recommend their services enough and wouldn’t go anywhere else. They always jump out of the car and run to the door and staff.”

OPERATING HOURSMonday to Friday: 6:30am – 8:00pm
Saturday to Sunday: 8:00am – 6:00pm

Sublime Cat ‘N Canine makes it to our list of the top kennels in Edmonton because they provide daycare for both cats and dogs!

Your pets will enjoy the wide-open 7,600 square foot facility, which has thick rubber matting indoors to keep them safe and happy. If the weather is favourable, they can also run around the outdoor yard lined with artificial grass, which keeps them free from dirt and mud.

Sublime Cat ‘N Canine recognizes that felines are different socially from dogs, so they don’t mingle with other cats. Instead, they’ll receive intimate one-on-one playtime with each staff member, and they’ll be rotated in the different areas so they can experience different forms of stimulation.

Your cats won’t get in a fuss with the dogs during their stay here either, so you don’t have to worry. Your kitties will have their own exclusive “high-rise condo” where they have their own elevated private space.

What we like about Sublime Cat ‘N Canine is their 1,970 square foot indoor park, a large open space that’s ideal for conducting training sessions with your pets. You can bring your own toys but you’re welcome to use the on-site doggie play equipment, jumps, play structures, and cleaning materials for any unwanted accidents.

However, this area is not free with your enrollment and costs an extra $15 per hour with an additional charge of $7.50 per hour for any companions that you bring along. If you just want to give your pet some indoor exercise, you can rent a special doggie treadmill at a lower price of $5.75 for 30-minutes.

For those that want their pets to receive professional training instead, Sublime Cat ‘n Canine offers Good Dog Training classes, which introduces your pup to basic commands and helps you control them off-leash. It’s a 6-week course that’s open to any dog over 6 months old with complete vaccinations.

We also like Sublime Cat ‘N Canine’s Basic Agility class, which provides movement training through fun sports and activities. Your dog will use  The Dog Walk, tunnels, jumps, teeters, and weave poles, which is good for dogs of any size.

Pros

  • Open everyday
  • Can rent the indoor dog park for training or play
  • Also accepts cats
  • Offers Competition Obedience Class

Cons

  • Additional fee for administering medication
  • Some classes have prerequisite training before you can enroll

Customer Reviews

Sublime Cat ‘N Canine’s indoor park is one of its highlight features among its clients.

Candice Reagan is a fan of the space, as she writes:

“The ladies that work here are super friendly and helpful..  the indoor dog park is awesome! Great price to have the entire place to yourself with your pups or they can have some doggy friends too! Highly recommend the indoor park for cold days like today to keep your dogs active”

Courtney Nickerson likes using the rented space when the weather outside is uncooperative. She shares:

“We used the indoor dog play area during one of the cold days and it was an awesome set up! Lots of space to run, lots of toys to play with. It was heated and had radio. The staff were very kind and helpful. We drove from the North East of the city to come here and would do it again!”

OPERATING HOURSMonday to Friday: 7:30 am – 6:00 pm
Saturday to Sunday: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

The Second Pup is nestled on 2 full acres of fenced-in green space, offering a vast area for your dogs to play considering it’s located in the city!

What we like at The Second Pup is the indoor open layout which is designed like a modern home, complete with furniture and beds for pets to relax and play in. The facility strives to maintain your pet’s familiar surroundings and routine as much as possible to minimize their separation anxiety.

We’re also a big fan that The Second Pup has an air purification system that uses UV rays to get rid of unwanted scents and eliminates bacteria. At least you can rest easy knowing that the air your pet is breathing is as pure as possible and free of unwanted pathogens.

Just like other kennels, your pet will undergo an initial assessment and a “trial daycare day” to see if they’ll be a good fit at The Second Pup. Take note that they’ll need to have vet-prescribed parasite treatment and deworming before enrollment as well.

Another thing to take note of is that you can only drop your dog off in the morning since afternoon or evening drop-offs aren’t allowed. You also have to bring your pet’s own food, since The Second Pup doesn’t provide any in-house meals.

However, The Second Pup offers a fantastic traditional leash training class, which teaches your dog how to control their impulses and walk with a loose leash. Their leash training program is $100 per day for 4-7 days, and the program is 30-90 days for the owners at home.

For younger pups, this facility offers Dayplay Plus which includes personalized interaction with an expert training coach. This daycare option focuses on teaching within a stimulating environment and aims to enhance your pet’s social skills.

Finally, our favourite feature here is that you can celebrate your dog’s birthday at The Second Pup with a special party package that includes cake, treats, and games. You’ll also be given 2 complimentary Polaroids, an entire photo album on social media, and a birthday video posted online!

Pros

  • Large open space with air purifier
  • Special birthday package and seasonal offers
  • Two acres of outside space within the city, natural enrichment activities, home environment with air purification

Cons

  • Must bring your own food
  • Morning drop-offs only

Customer Reviews

Here’s what some of their past customers have to say:

“I looked up and down for a daycare place that would be able to take care of my puppy. She’s kennel trained but we needed to work on her socialization & didn’t want her sitting at home all day every day. She’s been doing so so well and I can’t thank The Second Pup enough. No anxiousness when I drop her off and she’s made tons of friends. The 5 week pup and play program to get her introduced was also very amazing as it was “easing” her into the socialization aspect. Can’t recommend them enough 🙂

“We were worried how our little Mexican rescue dog would react to being with so many dogs as we had no knowledge of her previous experiences with other dogs. She went to Daycare Plus once and got along so well she is now in the regular daycare and loving it. The staff have been great.

Little Paws Inn has over 6,500 square feet of fun space for pets with two spacious outdoor yards for your furry friends to run around in. It also has indoor lodging and a play area for days when the weather isn’t too great.

What we like best about Little Paws Inn is that it cares for dogs, cats, and rabbits! They even accept almost any kind of exotic pet as long as they have a cage.

Little Paws Inn, among other things, specializes in pet grooming, with a talented team of professionals that will attend to your pet’s needs. This service is offered for cats, dogs, and rabbits and ranges from a full bath to precise nail trimming.

However, before your pet receives their spa-like treatment, a grooming technician will do a thorough full body check and head-to-tail massage. After the examination, they’ll report their findings if any abnormalities need to be checked by a vet, which is a great extra perk here.

For your bunnies, they have dedicated over 1,500 square feet exclusively for them to roam around in. They have special rooms with plenty of natural light that can host a single rabbit or up to an entire family.

Take note that it’s $16 a day for the first bunny and $12 for each additional rabbit you bring in. What we like about rabbit daycare is that Little Paws Inn can also groom your rabbits, even though it’s limited to brushing their coats and cutting their nails.

The Training Programs at Little Paws Inn are only available for dogs and are based on active participation from you as the owner, to solidify your bond together. They offer basic training for puppies and adults, with a range of classes to choose from.

The best part about their classes is that you can create a customized 10-hour training program that can be conducted at the facility or in the comfort of your home.  Whether it’s training for leash reactivity, aggression, door etiquette, or even for a professional dog show, Little Paws Inn can accommodate any training needs!

Pros

  • Accepts rabbits and other exotic pets
  • Offers Customized training program for dogs
  • Affordable training programs

Cons

  • No daycare on Sunday
  • Limited grooming options for rabbits
  • Exotic pets need to be caged

Customer Reviews

Little Paws Inn is known for their highly trained groomers which keep customers coming back for more. Brittany Buck, a regular client, shares her thoughts

“Love this place! The girls there are SO nice and they did such a good job grooming my pup and making him feel comfortable. Will definitely keep bringing him here”

Luisa, a proud rabbit owner, shared her bunnie’s experience at Little Paws Inn:

“Little Paws Inn is a wonderful place for a rabbit. I love that they have free range in a rabbit proof room. The staff were extremely accommodating and encouraged me to call and check in. They were kind enough to post pictures of him on their Facebook page. Scheduling was flexible and I felt good about leaving him with professionals, rather than alone at home or at a friends house. Will definitely be bringing my rabbit here again!”
