The 6 Best Sunday Markets in Edmonton That You Have to Visit

sunday-markets-in-edmonton

Every Sunday, my mom and I make it a ritual to head out to the markets. We go early since most Sunday markets in Edmonton close after lunch. The earlier start gives us more time to wander, sample fresh breads, and smell handcrafted candles.

For me, these outings are never just about shopping. I find them a change of pace from the usual workweek, with a lively atmosphere and plenty to discover at a relaxed pace.

After exploring so many Sunday markets, a few have really struck with us. These are the ones we think worth waking up early for, whether you’re a foodie or a window shopper.

Bountiful Farmers’ Market is one of the most popular indoor Sunday markets in Edmonton, with over 120 vendors under one roof. I personally like the setup because it feels like a lively village square. It’s bright and full of energy.

Of course, with that energy comes the crowds. It can get busy, but the wide aisles and clean space make it manageable compared to many other markets.

When it comes to the products, they have fresh fruits and vegetables (though a little on the pricey side). I personally love their breads since they’re always freshly-baked, and the selection of tea and samosas.

There’s also a play area and food court, so market trips with families are easier for parents.

Pro Tip:

Shop early since parking can get tricky once it gets crowded.

When it comes to outdoor markets, 124 is one of my top picks. It’s a family-friendly and dog-friendly Sunday market in Edmonton, so expect it to be really crowded.

Since it’s only open for four hours (11 AM – 3 PM), we like to plan our day around it. The vendors rotate weekly, so you never quite know what you’ll find. But I honestly think that’s part of the fun!

Our go-to buys here are fresh corn and coffee beans. We also come for foods like Korean BBQ and some soda. There’s something especially warm about spending a relaxed Sunday supporting local businesses.

Unlike other markets, 124 is on the small side. Still, it’s very accessible to almost all people. Bikers, walkers, and even runners can come to grab some snacks.

Pro Tip:

If you’re after fresh produce, come early as fruits and vegetables immediately sell out.

Another great option for a Sunday market in Edmonton is the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market. Unlike many others, it’s open year-round and welcomes shoppers both on Sundays and Saturdays.

What we like about this is that it has a livelier atmosphere than other indoor markets. There are live events, like buskers, which add to the market experience. There are also community booths and food trucks where you can grab delicious bites.

On Sundays, they offer student discounts. This makes them a nice choice for younger shoppers looking for a budget-friendly spot to spend their weekends.

Pro Tip:

Don’t forget to bring your ID if you’re a student! You’ll need it for the discounts.

Queen Mary’s Market is probably one of the largest Sunday markets in Edmonton, with more than 130 vendors spread across 43,000 square feet.

They’ve got everything, from rare items to speciality food. I remember purchasing a few household tools here and some doughnuts at a Chinese stall. Crafters and thrifters will also enjoy hunting for unique finds.

Plus, the vendors are really fun to talk to. They’re friendly and engaging, always sharing stories without coming across as pushy.

Pro Tip:

Parking is a bit tight, so arrive early if you want to secure a parking space.

Callingwood Farmers’ Market is one of the longest-running Sunday markets in Edmonton, operating for 40 years now. It’s also the largest in the city, with over 200 vendors available.

You’ll find everything from meats and hand-crafted goods to plants. Some vendors are located indoors, while some are outdoors. It’s pretty nice since you get the chance to enjoy both types of market experiences in one trip.

If you go, don’t miss the cherries. They have different varieties of cherries—peach, yellow ones, and dark-colored cherries.

Pro Tip:

Bring your kids! There are live events or activities for kids that children will enjoy.

South Common Farmers Market

If you’re looking for a Sunday market in Edmonton with plenty of fresh produce, you’d love South Common Farmers Market. Being in South Edmonton means nearby farms supply much of the produce, so you get some of the freshest produce in the city.

The market isn’t as large as others, but I like that better since the experience feels more relaxed than overwhelming. Plus, most of the vendors are small farmers and artisans, so you know you’re supporting locals.

For those with dogs, it’s okay to bring them. Just make sure to follow the pet etiquette: keep them leashed and don’t let them sniff the products.

Pro Tip:

Some vendors offer discounts near their closing hours, so you might want to take this chance to save some.
