We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Suppose you’ve ever had a baba (a beloved Ukranian grandmother) who’s well-beloved and respected in the family. In that case, you know two things: she’s the ultimate authority on what’s actually good Ukrainian food and will 100% side-eye your life choices if you get it wrong!

Maybe you’ve tried making Ukrainian food at home once or twice. Maybe you even thought you nailed it. But the truth is, unless you’ve got a Baba whispering “more dill” over your shoulder, it’s just not the same.

Lucky for you, we’ve got these Ukrainian food spots that sell dishes so good, you’d swear they were made by someone who’s been rolling them for 60 years straight.

Hungry yet? Same. So, let’s dive in!

When it comes to authentic Ukrainian food in Edmonton, Yo Baba is not to be missed. Their hand-pinched pierogies are quite popular and are perfect for stocking up and cooking at home, with options like potato and cheddar or sauerkraut.

Their borsch (a type of beet soup) is also a nice comfort food to try. It has earthy flavors that truly capture the essence of Ukrainian home cooking.

The hand-rolled cabbage rolls are equally impressive. Whether you prefer the classic meat and rice filling or vegetarian varieties, they’re all seasoned and cooked perfectly. Plus, the portion is just right for a light meal or an appetizer.

Uncle Ed’s Restaurant’s menu is packed with traditional dishes, making it a great spot to visit if you love the classics. The mixed plates are the real stars, as they let you sample a variety of items, so you’re never stuck choosing just one.

A favorite is the #8 Mundare Sausage combo, perfect if you want a little bit of everything. For just $14, you’ll get four pierogies, four cabbage rolls, two baked cheese buns, two cheese crepes – and, of course, the famous Mundare sausage!

The Mundare sausage, or kovbasa, deserves a special mention. It’s grilled to perfection, revealing a smoky and juicy flavor. You’ll see why it’s a favorite the moment you take a bite!

If you can’t make it to the restaurant, Uncle Ed’s also offers online ordering for convenience. Just take note that the prices are slightly higher than in-store, though we’re confident they won’t break the bank.

If you’re after the best Ukrainian sausage in Edmonton, Marchyshyn’s Home Meat Market is where you need to go. They’ve been perfecting their craft since 1925, using a simple yet unbeatable recipe of just four ingredients: 100% pork, fresh garlic, salt, and pepper!

Their garlic sausage is a must-try. Cooked in a traditional wood-fired smokehouse oven, it has that smoky flavor that’s hard to find anywhere else. The coarse grind even gives it a hearty texture, while the garlic adds a savory kick.

Their pepperoni is equally impressive, made with a blend of natural peppers and spices. It’s also fire-smoked, delivering a depth of flavor similar to the sausages. You can have it as a snack or add it to your charcuterie board.

Their perogies are a standout, and the cottage cheese ones come highly recommended. They’re light and delicately flavored, served sitting in melted butter. The combo creates a rich, buttery taste that’s perfect for those who love savory meals.

The Nalysnyky, or Ukrainian crepes, are another must-try if you want something traditional and homemade. For other classics, you can’t go wrong with their garlic sausage, which pairs beautifully with the rest of their menu.

If you ever find yourself craving Shumka, you can drop by in person or order online for added convenience.

Baba’s Own Ukrainian Food is as close as it gets to tasting food just like your baba used to make!

What started as a project at St. Michael’s Millennium Pavilion has grown into a beloved local favorite, offering authentic Ukrainian dishes while supporting a good cause – every purchase helps fund St. Michael’s Seniors Care Home!

As for food, their cabbage rolls are a must-try, especially the mini pan of rice and bacon rolls. These come frozen, making them a convenient option to cook at home.

For a twist, try them with spicy Clamato juice and a touch of chicken OXO. If you prefer even lighter meals, the Ukrainian dumplings are just as good. Whether you boil them up for dinner or keep them as a freezer staple, you’ll enjoy them.

Malina Ukrainian Bakery and Eatery is a hidden gem for those who love modern Ukrainian cuisine. The sour cherry pierogies are the most in-demand – well-loved for their slightly sweet cherry filling wrapped in soft dough.

Another must-try is the potato pancakes, which are crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. They’re simple, classic, and perfect as a light meal or a side to some of Malina’s other offerings.

For a sweet ending, the honey cake comes highly recommended. The honey cake layers are perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sweetness, so it won’t overwhelm you.

But don’t leave without trying the Ukrainian latte. It’s smooth and indulgent, offering a balance that’s both comforting and energizing. If you need a quick coffee break, this is the perfect choice!

It’s not easy finding gluten-friendly options that don’t sacrifice flavor, but DON’YA Ukraine’s Kitchen hits the mark. Their gluten-friendly perogies are excellent, and my friends with dietary restrictions were blown away by the taste.

Beyond these options, the rohalyky with apple filling is the perfect choice for those who love sweets. The apple tart is flaky and pairs well with a nice cup of tea or coffee.

For something a bit more filling, their cabbage rolls are everything you’d want in a homemade dish. These rolls taste like they’ve come straight from a baba’s kitchen.

If you’re lucky, you might even get a few extra pierogies tossed in with your order!

8. Loaded Pierogi

If you can’t tell yet, I love perogies, and the options at this restaurant aren’t any different. I especially love their crispy perogy with pork. It’s rich with cheese and topped with fresh onion and tomato for added crispness.

Their portions are generous and loaded with toppings, staying true to their name! The Double Double was a standout for me, while my friend enjoyed the Godzilla. Although delicious, the teriyaki sauce on the Godzilla can be a bit strong for some.

Their service is fast, so you won’t have to wait long to enjoy your meal. Plus, their app makes things even more convenient – offering rewards and weekday specials to keep things exciting!

9. Widynowski’s Sausage House

Their impressive selection of sausages is the highlight at Widynowski’s Sausage House (if you can’t tell yet from their name!), with their double-smoked kubasa stealing the show.

The jalapeño cheddar smokies are another must-try, combining just the right amount of spice with melted cheese for an explosion of flavors. These smokies are the ultimate barbecue staple, perfect for a quick snack that’s packed with aroma.

Widynowski’s doesn’t stop there – they also stock locally made perogies (my faves) that are nothing short of exceptional. The cheddar and sausage variety is a best seller, thanks to its generous portions of flavorful fillings.
