We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

A few months ago, my friend shared a frustrating experience with a supposed “green” building contractor for his new home. These so-called environmentally conscious experts used subpar materials, missed deadlines, and ignored sustainable building practices.

The result? A half-finished project and a depleted budget.

As I listened to his story, I couldn’t help but feel the need to save others from a similar fate. So, with the rest of the Best in Edmonton team, I spoke with numerous contractors and their past clients to find the best green building contractors in the city.

After hours of research and countless interviews, here are the exceptional few that stood out to us.

How much does it cost to hire a green building contractor in Edmonton?

Hiring a green building contractor in Edmonton costs at least 200,000 CAD. This is just an estimate and the final cost will vary depending on the complexity of the building project.

How We Chose

Certifications and Accreditations: We verified if the contractors held certifications such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), BOMA BEST (Building Owners and Managers Association Best), or ENERGY STAR.
Portfolio: We reviewed the contractors’ previous projects to assess their experience in green building construction.
Testimonials: We gathered testimonials from people who had experience with green building projects in Edmonton. We focused on their satisfaction with the contractor’s work, communication, and overall experience.
Sustainability Practices: We asked questions about their use of sustainable materials, energy-efficient technologies, and waste management strategies.

Several people who went with ArtHouse for their duplexes mentioned how thrilled they were about the team’s commitment to net-zero energy. They installed solar panels to conserve energy and used eco-friendly materials like recycled steel, bamboo, and recycled wood.

The team’s in-house architectural technologists also received lots of praise. They helped clients ensure their homes met the standards for sustainable finishes and aesthetics. Plus, they use computer models, which allow clients to visualize the design concepts.

Once the building began, many clients loved their project management software. It showed them daily logs and pictures of the work happening on site.

That being said, we did hear complaints about the prices of their services. Some clients said the starting rates are quite expensive.

Strong design team with lots of unique ideas

“These builders took me from initial design to final construction of a custom home.  Thoroughly professional; strong design team with lots of unique ideas (Norm!) and practical approach; exceptionally transparent billing.  They are becoming a one-stop shop including even the landscaping and solar.  It wasn’t done super fast, but that’s to be expected, and it was done well.  “We’ve never built this home before” is always true for a custom home, but I think the chances of everything working out are high if you work with Habitat.  Well done guys!”

My house and the quality of product and service is top notch!!

“Addition of the solar division a couple of years ago is amazing asset!  Just had a Solar array installed on my house and the quality of product and service is top notch!!!  Highly recommend!!!”
