The 5 Wool Shops in Edmonton Perfect for Yarn Lovers and DIY Crafters

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Quality of Wool: I focused on shops carrying top-quality wool, from luxurious merino to locally sourced varieties.

Variety and Selection: I focused on stores that carry an extensive variety of yarn colors, weights, and textures to make sure they can cater to the needs of every crafter.

Staff Expertise and Support: I looked for shops where staff are knowledgeable and approachable. We preferred those who are ready to offer advice on projects, techniques, and yarn choices.

Shopping Experience: Stores with a welcoming, organized, and inspiring environment made the cut. I picked those that make it easy to browse, touch, and choose wool without feeling rushed.

Community Engagement: I looked for stores that bring carters together through workshops, group sessions, or community events, making the shopping experience social and inspiring.

Over the past few winters, I’ve tried knitting a few gifts for friends. Somehow, I kept running into the same problem: scratchy wool, stiff wool, or pieces that just didn’t hold up once I started working with them.

After a few of these frustrating projects, I realized picking the right wool isn’t as simple as it seems.

Determined not to waste more time and money, I visited several wool shops in Edmonton to see which ones actually made choosing the right fiber easier.

Here are the shops that stood out — the ones worth keeping on your radar.’

How much do supplies cost at wool shops in Edmonton?

Wool at wool shops in Edmonton costs between $5 and $50+ per skein, depending on the type and quality. Specialty or luxury wool can cost $60 to $150 per skein, and bundled project kits may start at $100 or more.

The Fibre Nook is the kind of place that makes you want to linger, even if you came in for just a single skein.

The moment I stepped in, I was greeted by over 20,000 skeins of yarn in every color, fiber, and weight you could imagine.

I loved how easy it was to mix and match. I grabbed a few skeins of hand-dyed merino for something special and paired them with some practical cotton blends. Seeing all the textures and colors together gave me ideas for future projects.

The shop itself is super inviting. I found a cozy spot to sit, flip through reference books, and even check a pattern online with their free Wi-Fi.

The staff were friendly without being pushy, always happy to answer questions but never judgmental. I could see how easy it would be for someone new to Edmonton to feel at home here and meet other crafters.

The only downside? The store is a bit tricky to spot from the outside. There’s no big sign, so I had to really look at the windows to find it.

Pros

  • Over 20,000 skeins in stock
  • Independent, locally owned community hub
  • Learning opportunities galore
  • Cozy atmosphere with seating
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Highly inclusive and supportive culture
  • Excellent reputation among locals
  • Accessible location and amenities
  • Multiple convenient shopping options

Cons

  • No prominent outdoor signage

Wide selection with knowledgeable staff

“Great selection of high quality wool, kniting needles, crochet hooks, patterns, and notions! They have a cute space in the back of the store for open crafting and where classes are held. The staff member who helped me was personable and very knowledgable. I think I found my new favorite knitting nook!”

I recently visited Gather Textiles and found it a solid choice for people who take weaving seriously.

Their selection of weaving yarns is impressive, with everything from alpaca and bamboo to silk. There were also looms and tools from well-known brands like Schacht and Louët.

Their locally sourced, eco-friendly wool stood out when I was browsing. I picked up some of their Parkland Blanket Wool and could immediately tell it had been carefully spun and dyed with natural materials.

Gather Textiles also offers expert-led workshops, both in-person and online. This made me feel like even a beginner like me could actually learn something practical. The classes are hands-on, interactive, and welcoming to all levels.

Plus, the free online resources and patterns they provide are a nice bonus if you want to keep learning at home.

One thing to keep in mind is that some of their products lean toward the premium side. For someone on a tighter budget, it might feel a little steep to stock up on yarn or tools.

      Pros

      • Expert-led workshops for all levels
      • Locally sourced, eco-friendly materials
      • Diverse product range
      • Community-driven ethos
      • Inclusive learning environment
      • Comprehensive online resources
      • Strong local presence

      Cons

      • Higher price point

      Excellent supply store

“Fantastic store for weaving supplies. Lots of fibers to choose from, with silk, wool, linen and more. The hours can make it a little bit difficult to get to but well worth it”

      – Chris Thomson, Google Review

        Expert and approachable staff

“I have been going to Gather for weaving supplies, fibres, and education (and let’s be real, emotional support) for years now and would not go anywhere else. I know every item sold there is held to a high standard. The staff are experts in their crafts but are also extremely approachable to beginner weavers/crafters and always game to help problem solve. From their online course and in-person consultation service to more advanced workshops there is something for every skill level. I always come away from a visit inspired and eager to make something new!”

I visited Little Blue Fibre Studio with a friend and was struck by how welcoming the space feels.

The studio is in a convenient part of Edmonton, with reserved parking and wheelchair access.

The shelves are stocked with a variety of fibers and yarns, including knitting and felting supplies as well as materials for rug hooking and sashiko. I heard they do a 10% discount on Tuesdays, something regulars seem to keep in mind when planning a visit.

What really made the visit enjoyable were the workshops. I once attended a “Needle Felted Snowman” class, and the instructors made everything feel approachable. The sessions are hands-on, practical, and welcoming to all skill levels.

The studio has seating and free Wi-Fi. This gave me a chance to sit down, sketch out project ideas, and plan what I wanted to pick up next.

I also appreciated how committed Little Blue Fibre Studio is to the local community. They feature locally sourced yarns and fibres, and their presence is felt in Edmonton’s creative scene through social media highlights and local features.

That said, their focus is very niche. If you’re looking for a broad range of craft supplies outside of fibre arts, you might leave wanting more.

        Pros

        • Wide range of crafting supplies
        • Inclusive community hub
        • Featured by Sunny Edmonton as one of the city’s best art classes
        • Accessible location
        • Offers a 10% discount on Tuesdays
        • Free Wi-Fi ad seating
        • Locally sourced material
        • Engaging social media presence

        Cons

        • Niche focus

        Well-stocked store

“I love this place!! I started needle felting 9 months ago and buying supplies and wool here has been great. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They take an interest in what you’re working on and offer tips/advice which is nice. The store has everything you need and they offer classes.”

        – Whitney Kunow, Google Review

        Knowledgeable staff, quality supplies

“I went for my first wet felting class at this wonderful local wool & fibre shop with a good friend.

We made two beautiful little vessels to learn the basic techniques. And will share photos once they are complete, we have a little homework to complete.

We had the ‘best’ teacher ever, Val you are so patient and so very knowledgable by sharing all your ‘tips & tricks’.

So anxious to make my next creation with the Merina wool I purchased! 😊

Thank you Val for a great class, looking forward to my next one!”

What I loved about Marshall Fabrics was seeing the variety of wool textures and weights they carry.

The layout inside is neat and thoughtfully arranged, so it was easy to spot different fibers and supplies without feeling overwhelmed.

I noticed everything from soft, fine wools to sturdier, heavier fabrics that feel perfect for outerwear or home projects.

The pricing is reasonable too. There are deals like $25 for $50 on fabrics and accessories, which made it easy to grab a few extras without feeling guilty.

The staff were genuinely friendly and knowledgeable. I asked for advice on which wools would hold up best for a blanket I had in mind, and they walked me through different options. They explained how each type would behave once worked up.

Their advice helped me feel more confident while going through the large selection.

I also liked that you can shop in multiple ways: in-store, curbside pickup, or online with shipping across Canada. It’s especially convenient for those who can’t make it to the store in person.

A minor drawback is that the store layout can feel a little overwhelming at first. It takes time to find exactly what you want.

        Pros

        • Extensive fabric selection
          Organized layout
          Affordable pricing
          Friendly and knowledgeable staff
          Multiple shopping options
          Active social media presence

        Cons

        • Overwhelming store layout

        Well-organized store with high-quality supplies

“Great selection of high-quality fabrics and supplies. Store is well layed out, clean and tidy. Lots of staff at the cutting table so you don’t have to wait long. Interesting clientele to interact with if you happen to be the spouse of the sewer in the family.”

        – Glen, Google Review

Large, well-stocked store with excellent customer service

“Excellent customer service, ample staff to help the amount of customers that were in the store with me without anyone having to wait. This is a bigger store, and the selection is amazing!!! Beautiful colours, interesting patterned fabrics (a lot to choose from), also including all kinds of ribbon, lace, appliques, and a wide variety of sewing and craft tools. Lots of stuff to look at!

The environment inside the store was pleasant, temperature was neutral, lighting was not too harsh, and it was mostly quiet, which helped with my sensory challenges. I CANNOT WAIT TO GO BACK AGAIN. I could spend hours here just looking around and dreaming up new ideas for projects. We randomly chose Marshall Fabric on Google Maps as it was the closest to us, but we ended up very pleased with our shopping experience. Highly recommend!”

My aunt recommended Fabricland for their wool selection, so I decided to check it out—and it definitely didn’t disappoint.

The shelves are packed with wools, corduroy, and even some fun native prints. I was surprised to see styles here that I hadn’t come across in other fabric shops, like plaid wool blends and metallic-thread fabrics.

I also spent some time in the haberdashery section. Needles, threads, and other sewing essentials were easy to find, so I could grab a few extra supplies while I shopped for wool.

The staff were approachable and friendly, offering practical suggestions on which wools would work best for different projects. Their guidance felt more like helpful advice than a lecture.

Membership perks are hard to ignore if you plan to shop regularly. Discounts up to 50% off and frequent sales make it easy to stock up without breaking the bank.

Fabricland also has a few locations around Edmonton, which makes it easy to pop in whenever a project idea hits.
