Time Zone

Mountain Daylight Time (GMT -6)

Best Time to Go

The prime time to visit Strathcona is definitely during summer (June to August) and spring (March to May). It’s when the weather is nice and warm, so you can spend more time outside.

Besides that, the costs of flights and hotels during this period tend to be lower, so you might even score some great deals.

Nonetheless, if you prefer to roam around the neighborhood during the off-season, we recommend visiting in January, so you can enjoy skiing and snowboarding.

Which Neighborhoods to Visit Near Strathcona

Downtown Edmonton

Downtown Edmonton is the closest neighborhood you can visit if you’re in Strathcona. And it’s totally worth exploring this place because it features a diverse range of entertainment, shopping, and dining options.

Also, since it’s geographically the center of Edmonton, it’s easier to access major roads and get around other neighborhoods via public transit.

Garneau

If you wish to be away from Strathcona’s fast-paced and (often) noisy lifestyle, you can visit Garneau. This historic neighborhood is a peaceful yet accessible place to stay in, so if you want to take a break, just drop by.

Bonnie Doon

Bonnie Doon is a Franco-Albertan community in the city, so we recommend exploring this place if you want a glimpse of French culture. It’s also close to natural attractions like the famous Mill Creek Ravine.

Ritchie

Ritchie is known for its local eateries and restaurants, so if you’re a foodie, you’ll enjoy exploring this neighborhood. It also has access to Ritchie Park and Strathcona Park, so you can visit if you’re in the mood for sightseeing or picnics.

Oliver is also a locals’ pick in terms of the best neighborhoods in the city. It offers easy access to Grandin LRT Station and other public transportation options, so you can easily get around the neighborhood.

Don’t forget to visit 124 Street when you visit Oliver. Here you can check out small art galleries, shops, and cafes.
